How to Drive on steep slope road?

use hand brakes if stalling.
drive upsloap on petrol.
use you lights in the night & focus on turns to see lights of other cars.
during the day use horn @ turns & listen to the sound of other vehicles horn.
use 1st or 2nd gear if in a hilly area, specially downslope.
be very vigilant.
stay away from heavy duty trucks, keep a ditance from them, if coming your way, give them way. cause they think kay unkey baap ki sarak hai!!
be slow, even if driving downslopes on turns.

Since you are a learner so I would suggest you to practice the art of driving on roads having less traffic and then on public roads.
The hilly areas should be the last place you should go to.

Always give way to the traffic that is climbing the slope.
Use horn and mirrors installed on these blind turns.
Drive in small gears.

Donot panic and pull the handbrake.
Start the car and shift to 1st gear with the hand brake lever pulled.
Release the clutch slightly and when you feel that your car has produced enough power to move to climb that slope then release the handbrake.

comming down hills drive in low gears,most probably 2nd gear,apply brakes where in when needed.and please apply brakes with car running in gear.this will help.dont do like when applying brake u also push clutch.this will result in ur car getting free and will need harder braking.when clutch is pressed ur engine comes at idle speed which is not go0d for bracking as brake bo0ster used vaccum generated by engine.hope this will help you.wellcome to pakwheels and best of luck

I always panic when i park my car uphill and then i have to use the handbrake

brakes will become weak or eventually they'll fail; if you regularly and continously use brakes on down-hill while not using engine power to restrict down-hill force.
Tip: Always keep your car in Power-Gear while going down-hill and use less brakes.

If brakes have become weak, then again use gears to reduce the speed like frm 3rd to 2nd and then to 1st... Never use hand-brake to stop ur car while going down-hill as car will slide by doing that!

Never put ur car in neutral while going down-hill... i.e. to save fuel as some ppl do.. keep car in power-gear!

corolla 88 is fine car with good brakes.I meant to say that apply minimum brakes and if u will keep the car in 1st two low gears u will need less brakes and u will have control in car

for automatic cars.you should move the gear lever in D2 or D1 or some cars comes with L gear .it will be fine

well, since everyone is sharing their view, depending on steep and all, i think the one coming down should have the first right of passage, since its much harder for him to apply brakes and stop, while the one going up can.. unless its incline angle is so steep that the one going upwards won't be able to start driving up from dead stop! (since in that case the one coming down would also be in 1st gear only and can easily stop in most instances)

automatic gears too hav different levels (D, D3, D2, D1 (L) etc...)

D3, D2 or even D1 (L) can be used where required at extreme slope where u need to slow down.. means if u r driving in D1, then transmission will be locked in 1st gear and car will remain in Power-Gear within speed-bracket of 1st gear allowing less use of brakes...

else, in D... transmission will automatically upshift or downshift according to the acceleration level.. here u r somewhat using brakes frequently on down-hill!

ps: in some cars D3 means tht gears autoshift frm 1 to 3 up n down not locking gear only in 3rd!

1. Assume your car running on CNG, trigger CNG switch to covert it to neutral, trigger again to switch to petrol, trigger again to switch to neutral.
2. Apply gears according to your need.
3. Your power steering, brake booster, AC, headlights, everything will work and you save fuel too.
4. When you feel your car on plane surface, just press the CNG switch and your engine starts.
5. You can't do this trick if your car does not have CNG installed.

But this is only for carbby cars i guess ? coz in efi cars the CNG converter functions a bit differently, pressing the cng button once would mean petrol/cng, not neutral

LOL are you trying to kill him?
Although, if you keep the car in one gear, keep it on CNG or petrol, and as long as the engine doesn't get to its idle speed, it's just using inertia to move and turn the engine as well- so you won't use any fuel with that technique also. Keeping the car in the neutral area can be pretty dangerous in case you have to suddenly stop, and then get moving again.

@poster never apply this hypermiling technique till now bcoz u r not experienced on steep slops.And never ever use neutral gear for going down on slop .its very dangerous
