all editions except the sport has drum brakes in the rear, you see a corolla is like a Honda 50 in the USA, its buyers dont care about it. they drive it without maintenance and when it dies try to sell it for little money and buy a new one again.

Its buyers in Houston are 50% Pakistani, Indian, B'deshi, Chinese etc. Their maintenance schedule is like this

engine oil - every 4000 miles from the cheapest ghetto oil change place
trans oil - never changed or even inspected.
brake fluid - never change
brake pads and shoes when the car refuses to stop. (something like this) - its not a toyota brake but most corolla owners brakes are like this when they go for service.

never wash the car - too spensive to do (read as lazy)
eat, drink, spill, release gas, kid vomit in the car is considered normal
never clean the interior - the below picture is not a corolla but most corolla interiors look like that

And same is the case in Pakistan. Not a lot of people I know "maintain" Corollas. They just drive them until something either leaks, seized up or starts making noise. And that is why, Corollas and Mehrans are the king here.

No matter what people have to say bout Corollas or how they think bout them, the fact is that Toyota has got a Corolla right for decades, and I have no doubt what so ever, that they will get it right again, for the 11th time.

I have to say that Corolla happens to be one of the most boring cars to drive but yet the best selling one....

City sold in Pakistan still has rear drum brakes. Keep that in mind, too.

One more thing, we do too much maintenance in Pakistan. Cars can still run reliably with less maintenance. However, in US the manufacturers make less maintenance a selling point. They will boast that their car doesn't require any major maintenance for 100000 miles.
