Hi man you have done an extra ordinary work,v must appreciate ur efforts, i presume you have hardly explored 1/3 of beauty that is lying in our northern areas.v must be thankful to ALLAH that our country is blessed with magnificent beauties and cultural varities.surprisingly u did't muster strength for khunjrab top??.....another amazing part of northern areas....

Photos are prety much self explanatory..

The trees on the far right corner mark the spot where Ainabad village once existed. Its now under water.

Its amazing.had been there twicw but before this lake was formed.Once went through KKH and for second time, went from Chitral through Shandur pass.
What are these tractors for?Are these meant for removing landslide debris or what?And if you can post the pictures of the NATCO covered boat in which its fully visible?And also do they also transport jeeps and small transport vehicles etc across the lake or just passengers?
Were there any trade activities across the two sides of lake in form of goods transport in boats as this route used to be the trade highway between pakistan and China?And now the activity must have been badly affected and reduced to almost zero as big containers and trucks are unable to cross in boats.

Thanks. Yes you are right I hardly explored 1/3rd of the area. About Knunjerab, there were two hurdles. First, I was with my family and didn't want to put them through the rigours of a very rough and long journey beyond Attabad lake. Second, due to a fuel shortage on the other side of Attabad lake these days, the jeep rents till Khunjerab are astronomical (Upto Rs 20,000). So had to postpone Khunjerab till conditions improve.

The trade activity across the lake was thriving. Merchandise comes from Sost till Hussaini from where they are loaded on large cargo boats. From Hussaini till Attabad (the landslide area) it takes about 1.5 to 2 hrs by boat. The tractors are there for taking the mechandise up and across the landslide area, as trucks cant climb the extremely loose and narrow dirt track. Once across the landslide area, the goods are then transfered to the trucks waiting there.

Yes, they do transport jeeps, vans and trucks on the boats across the lake, but I didn't spot any such activity when I was there.

Thanks a lot.And how much time you took in NATCO boat to cross the lake from Ataabad to Hussaini and then back?And Cargo boats I guess must be very slow moving as compared to passenger boats?

Passenger boats take 1.5 hrs from Attabad to Hussaini and yes cargo boats are lot slower for obvious reasons, dont know how much time they take.
