Hunza Trip- Lahore to Khunjerab Pass

Hi every one. I am planning a rad trip from Lahore to Khujerab Pass. starting march 15th.

Can anyone please advise on the current road conditions as per below itinerary:

Day 1 : Abottabad to Chilas
Day 2: Chilas to Karimabad
Day 3: Karimabad to Khunjerab Pass and back to Karimabad

Please also advise average driving times between the above locatiions and any precautions that should be taken and places to stay. We are two couples.

I am planning to take my 2015 GLI. Is the road okay for this car or do i need to take a 4X4. Appreciate you input in the above

The road from Abbotabad till chillas is alright with few bad patches.
Chillas to Karimabad is excellent.
I think you will not be able to reach the border as it will be closed due to snow.
Gli is fine no need to take a 4*4.
From Islamabad to Chillas it will take around 8-9 hrs.
Chillas to karimabad 5-6 hrs.
Karimabad to Khunjerab 4 hrs approx. On your way you can see passu glacier and passu cones.
Try to cover Kohistan area (Besham to Darel) in daylight.

Hi Thank you for your guidance, One more question, I have been trying to get in touch with Shangrilla Chilas on 034554644666 (number given on their face book page) but no one is answering since the last three days. Any body has their number. Need it to book in advance.

As season is off advance booking might not be required. You may also stay in other hotels in Chillas. There are some good one on main road beyond Shangrila. I tried to search for Chillas Shangrila number but couldn;t find.

If you have option of 4x4 avail that. KKH is in very bad shape between Dasu and Chilas. You will regret taking Gli. You will not be able to reach Khunjerab Pass, as it will be closed due to snow. If you can skip Chilas, it will be better. Nothing much to enjoy in Chilas.

You shall push more to make it abbotabad to karimabad rather than staying at chillas, 4hrs extra driving in a single stretch would save you a whole day at hunza and better options for night stay.

GLi is fine, Plz leave early (I suggest 4am) from abbotabad and have patience to keep driving slow at kohistan area or u ll hurt ur car.

Chillas Shangrila is probably closed, will re-open in April may be. You can still confirm
From the number given in above posts.
Lastly, you won't be able to make it to khunjerab...

Hi guys, this is my first ever post in any kind of forums so sorry if im posting in wrong category. im planning to visit hunza with my wife(my first ever trip further than babusar top) in mid sep. I want to ask 1.is sep a good time to travel through babusar pass route?
2. What will be the room rates in good hotels like eagle nest or serena or any other good options.
3. Will it be ok to take my new honda city? I have experience driving till babusar top and a lots of trips to galiyat and naran side. Im a careful driver. Will it be safe to take my car. And how about the road conditions suspension tu nae faragh ho jaye ge? And security conditions?
4. Ok so this is serious topic but i had to confirm from people who have visited hunza. I have heard that most of the population of hunza and surroundings is ismailis(agha khani), is halal meat available there? Some molvi friends told me that they are not muslims so meat is not halal? Please anyone
5. Im planning a trip for 12 days. 4 days travelling 4 days in hunza and surroundings(please advise on areas to visit other than hunza, we can extend Our stay in hunza to five days if there are good places we can visit) 2days stay in naran and 1 day in nathiagali (ill make a detail plan near sep).
6. Please advise about the budget im thinking of 150k. Will that be enough keeping in mind good hotels like eagles.
