Hypermiling (Getting unbelievable mileage on Petrol)

After applying only two methods (keeping rpm upto 2K max, and getting the momentum as much as possible), I am getting around 130-140km under Rs.300 CNG in my Cultus VXRi 2008 during City Drive.

Nice thread, but you forgot to mention a very important point which has great impact on fuel economy and that is tire inflation pressure which can effect your fuel efficiency as much as 25%.

What car you have and how you calculated the averages?Another question what is the lowest rpm on which you can drive your vehicle(i learned that driving below 1500 can damage the engine).

as far as ABS brakes go, old japanese cars (vitz, rolla, platz etc etc) have it, and even some newer paki cars (gli etc) have them.. so if u dont have them doesnt mean no one in pakistan has them.

also, this is NOT a page for racing/fast driving. READ the title. Says hypermiling. It doesnt mean going fast. If you want to go fast or normal, dont read.. if u wana REALLY save money, or wana try out new things, then this post is for you.

Keyword was: "Search for Neutral." Which actually implied that all these things have been discussed multiple times and a person who thinks what he is talking about is worth reading, but everyone else knows its not, looks very impolite.

1. This topic talks about anticipating road conditions a dozen times (looking as far ahead on the road as you can).
2. It talks about driving "slow" a good 3 dozen times.
3. It says we can use coasting when we are not wanting to accelerate (implying to stopping at red lights, stopping before traffic jams, stopping anywhere) which further implies that since you are looking far ahaed on the road as you can, and are already slow, you can put the car in neutral and it will reach that point without needing for you to push the breaks like a maniac.

good ignition system can also give u good consumption ! when i installed plug wires for some time and iridium plugs ! my car consumption in petrol was 8kmpl and after installing the wires and plugs it was near 12kmpl (untuned in petrol) engine is 5afe
recently i installed denso iridiums plugs and before that i was getting 29-30 km in 100 rs matlab 1.8kg of cng now im getting 35 fix

i drive not too slow not too fast normal ! matlab kabi full rpm pe khejoma kabi slow aur jaldi gear shift ! so the mileage is average

Brother I did write the response to this but then I forgot to post and went somewhere. I'm sorry.

Regarding tire pressure, broh we did discuss this in the same thread. I keep my tire pressure at 35 PSI which works good enough for me and is 100% safe. Tire pressure till 40 PSI is not a problem at all. These pressures can never burst a tire, these tires have much more tolerance for air. It only depends on personal priorities. If you need a softer drive, you should keep lower tire pressure (somewhere at 28 - 30 psi) and if you need economy, may be you can go higher.

What car I have.. I have Honda City i-vtec (2009) at almost 26,000 KMs now. This car does come with a built-in average calculator (it shows average from the time you reset the trip meter), but since a lot of people here on Pakwheels keep blabbing about the trip calculators being not accurate, I started doing something different now. On each refill, I put either 1000 or 1500 rupees of Petrol. Then the kilometers I travel till the next refill, I note them down and divide them by three. This gets me the kilometers/500 rupees of fuel. I compare it with other cars getting x number of kilometers for 500 rupees of CNG. The closer, the better.

Most people get about 120-130 Kilometers in local drive per cylinder (around 500 rupees of CNG) and I myself once got 145 KMs/500 Rupees of petrol. But getting 115 - 120 is very normal for local. On long distance I get 150-160 KMs/500 Rupees of Petrol.

Driving on excessive lower RMPs is actually not very very economic and can also have bad effect on your mileage. Getting a decent, but constant speed is also one of the most important thing. Doing excessive slow driving also puts a bad effect on the mileage.

For the most of the time, my RPMs are above 2300 and below 3000 revolutions.

Well 'dude', if your head still has working brain cells, you will anticipate the road, and look much far ahead on the road as you can, and then shift to neutral. You will not drive like our local morons, who are only thinking about the amount of pressure they have on the accelerator thinking the faster they go, the more everyone will be impressed by them.

A mature person never comes across surprises like our moron friends. The whole point of coasting is to shift to neutral where you can, where you already are planning to slow down and stop. So instead of going at a good speed, and slamming on the breaks at the point where you have to stop, you reach that point at a much lower speeds. Hence, this method is much more safer than speeding to the point and hitting breaks where you have to stop (like most of our boy-racers) and then looking around at other people seeing what they thought of this maneuver.

I couldn't stop myself reading the whole thread in a single sitting. And it answered most of my questions.

My personal experience with my Vitz 05 is, whenever I fill its fuel tank upto neck it gives low average. But when I fill it for Rs.1,000 it gives better average. what do you say?

And an other point about Hypermiling, should we switch off the engine at signals?

Bro, first of all thanls for the reply.

I couldn't get what method you adopt as mentioned above.The method which i have studied from different sources and is quite accurate is as below:

" Get your tank filled full and note the odometer reading. Drive the car(half tank or more) and then refill the tank to the full again.Note the volume of petrol filled. Find how many kilometers you have driven from last fill(present reading - last full tank reading) and devide by amount of petrol used to fill the tank to full.This will give Kms/liter not dependent upon fuel cost."

This is the correct method in my opinion.

Reagrding tire pressure i think the manufacturer's recommendation are to be followed and are best.
