I think the only thing that they can sell this model of Elantra on is price and I doubt they can price it great with current situation

Exterior: both Corolla & civic look better
Interior: civic is miles better than the bland interior in Elantra
Everything else: I doubt an added feature list is going to make a big difference in a country that's buying xli happily, doubt even drivetrain is much of a difference.

Despite attractive pricing, Elantra compared with Civic and Corolla. Keep in mind , the graph is till end of 2017, Corolla sales were down because of the 12th generation coming for sale in spring of 2019 while Civic sales hurt becuase of their own SUV's taking over like CRV and Pilot and same is situation with Toyota as well, RAV4 overtaking their sedan share.

I think as you said, Elantra if Hyundai start Pakistan domestic model, will be priced same as Corolla and Civic. I think it would bot be easy for Elentra when 12th generation arrive in Pakistan in 2020.

Although looks are subjective and personal opinion but Hyundai and Kia might start loosing their wow factor as far as exterior after departure of Peter from being the design head.

9.5 million is not bad if you consider it to be in the Accord or Camry league but if it isnt in that league then we dont know whats going on with HNM and we clearly know the populace HNM is aiming at !

It's an imported unit on which they paid all the import duties

Dont you think they might have gotten some leverage or luxury or tax and duty discount on this CBU test unit...?

Elentra don't compete with Accord or Camry, I mean Camry, Accord and Hyundai Sonata are completely different segment. Accord and Camry are much much more refined vehicle's. Elantra compete with Corolla and Civic.

Obviously its a CBU and all tax are applied. Now the question is if Hyundai will launch it locally because as per Hyundai at launch of Santa FE, they officially said, they are getting 50% subsidy on import duty, for test launch and marketing purpose and on vehicles which will be later produced locally.. that was also the same logic at time of Santa FE launch that it attracted all those duties because it is not planned to be assembled locally.

I think this this Elantra is slapped with higher duty brackets at prevailing duty structure without any subsidy

Elantra is not even competing Civic / Grande... it’s actually smaller and it can sell if priced around / above Honda City price....
Heard they will be launching later this year

Hyundai sell Elantra against corolla and civic, infact here in US even Hyundai advertise it against Corolla and Civic. Hyundai Accent sedan compete City type / sized vehicles.

Elantra other competitors are Nissan Sentra , Chevy Cruze , Mazda 3

Current Elantra and Civic are within an inch in size.. in fact have same size wheel base, same width. Civic is an inch maybe longer but then Elantra has almost an inch more interior headroom

Both competes in same segment.

Well in case of Nishat and Lucky they started on their plant , imported alot of equipment/ machinery, spent money on land and development and human resources already and much earlier than Renault. When Lucky and Nishat started the dollar and economic situation were different. Renault only signed MOU and nothing actual on ground started so it was easy for them to back out due to current economic conditions.

For Nishat and Lucky they already invested big money by the time economy strated roller coaster and for them they had no other options to continue and obviously pass on the dent in shape of pricing of their product line which we just saw inshape of Sportage and I think its price will touch 6 Million in months to come. I think Picanto will start at 1.6 Million as introductory and then jump to 1.9.

Keep in mind NAB is tightening their investigation on Nishat group activities and you never know some highups go behind the bars.. that might be a reason of slowdown from Nishat towards Hyundai

Launch of midsize suv's like kia sportage & hyundai tucson makes sense to me, why? because it was an empty segment, people didn't have anything to buy here after fortuner moved to 8 million club except utes like revo & dmax. It is good to see that the upper middle class finally is getting some decent options.

Launching compact sedan like elantra doesn't make sense to me at all, these are the worst economic conditions we have seen for this segment, prices of civic & grande have moved to such a weird spot where they're out of affordability range for middle class and they aren't very attractive option to upper middle either. So in a segment where established players like Toyota and Honda are already struggling badly, idk what hyundai will achieve with a car thats considered already inferior to both its competitors globally. It'd rather make much more sense to launch a verna/accent sedan as I expect a shift toward this subcompact segment due to economic conditions.

People like me who belongs to middle and lower now only think of owning a 1300 CC plus car. Suzuki Dinky 660 is now priced above million VXR. Now higher class is also reluctant in buying millions of priced cars.

Hope dollar come down.

Dollar wont be coming down, it'll only move upwards from here.

We've a bad forex situation where we can only cover deficits by taking more debt, our export sector isn't diversified enough so there are minimal gains to be made there, foreign investment prospects remain dismal, import reduction prospects are also dismal in long-term cos we're dependent on them as a result of no diversification in local manufacturing base. Dollar may stabilize after some increase later in the year though.

USDM Tucson dropped the 1.6T engine on the face lift. Now Trim level SE and Value has 161HP 2.0L engine while rest gets 181HP 2.4L NA. Same engines as in Sportgae although, USDM Sportage dont have a 2.0L engine. It is either 2.4L or the 2.0L Turbo
