Hyundai Santro Restoration of Engine

Hi Guys.

i am not sure if it is appropriate location to post this issue.

A serious concerned about Santro Head Gasket drove around 68K. Coolant reservoir(bottle) is apparently reducing water. Where as radiator is fully filled. My mechanic told me that their is chance Head gasket is blown. As far as my knowledge i try to keep eye on heat gauge its never went over heated. Can any one suggest is he correct about Head Gasket? If he is correct what can be other symptoms? And how much cost will be for Head Gasket change? Also any performance issues after fixing. For now my car never gone for any type of Engine Surgery?

To check the blown gasket its simple.. Open the radiator cap, start the car, the water wud splash out of radiator if its a blown gasket.

Please replace radiator cap with original Santro cap with the exact pressure reading. Check fluid level after driving for a day. If it still reduces then you should proceed with further diagnoses. Our mechanics love to put low pressure caps to deprive the engine of required pressure. If your cooling system is weak, you should replace pipes/hoses.

for radiator cleaning bought a cleaner and a coolant..

the principle of the flush was first pour it into the radiator and than start the engine keep it idle for 10 to 15 mins and than start draining we will see the rusty water, also start filling the system with water and keep filling it with water untill the water color becomes normal..!!! and than add the coolant in the radiator..
santro radiator requires approx 2.5 L coolant

with rest of the coolant i filled the reservoir bottle

that flush only works with water, you first are supposed to drain any old coolant or rusty water from the system. Then fill fresh and add this.

the procedure that i adopted was
1. drainage of old water
2. filled the system with fresh water and add RADIATOR FLUSH
3. let the engine run idle for about 15 mins
4. drainage of flush mixed water which was of rust brown color with addition of fresh water from the top so that the radiaor keep filled as well as removal of rusty water
5. Addition of coolant

oh I forgot to mention, you need to remove the thermostat and blow out the system to ensure all the acidic content of this flush is drained out.

Everybody, here on this forum, advises to ask experts before getting any job done on their car. Well, as per my experience, this process of getting advice is very slow; you really dont have much time to post a question and then follow the discussion going on that topic while your car is sitting at the mechanics place. Though it helps to ask question when the issue is not that grave. But for instant issues we rather need to follow our own knowledge base or rely on mechanic's. What do you guys think?
