Someone asked the same question to General Kiyani couple of days ago. He explained it clearly that the glacier feeds indus river and the future wars will be fought over water. And we can clearly see this in pakistan and many african countries where they conflict arises over water. In Pakistan, the war is being fought with words between the two countries. Because of the shortage of water, we cant produce electricity. If the glacier is taken over by Indians, our rivers will run dry. This scares the hell out of me. I used to think just like you but ever since I heard Kiyani's stance, It makes complete sense why we are there. India will never ever attack us physically. They have a heart of a kafir. They are scared to die. But their brains run 100 times faster than a brain of a pakistani. They will defeat us economically, and they have been very successful.
Solution:
Pakistan needs to build permanent bases on the mountain that can withstand not only withstand enemy attacks but also harsh weather. Proper heating and water system should be in place and every soldier serving in siachin should have a background in dealing with cold weather and climbing mountains. Most of the soldiers serving there are from punjab region which neither sees snow nor has any mountainous terrain. Siachin should have soldiers from NWFP and Balochistan. We also need to induct technology. Its sad that soldiers still have to climb up the mountain with rations and ammunition.
BTW: no matter how physically fit you are, climbing mountains is not easy. A person who has lived on the mountains all his life can easily climb up and go down. Pakistan army needs to start trusting our baloch and Sarhadi brothers and give them the task of defending part of the border. A person grows up when he is given responsibilities. If these people are given some kind of responsibilities, theyll automatically develop love and devotion for the task. Siachin, Kashmir, and the whole pak-afghan border should be controlled solely by the Baloch and Sarhadi brothers and sisters. And no one should be allowed to speak punjabi, sindhi, balochi, pashtu in the army. Everyone MUST speak Urdu.
Our military lacks serious discipline skills. I saw a video where low ranking soldiers were shaking hands with General Kiyani. Army is not about winning hearts of the low rankers, its about Status and Rank. If you have a higher rank, you are not required to answer anyone who is from a lower rank that includes hank shakes, interaction etc. Thats why in the army, there is a separate mess for low and high ranking soldiers.
