Salaam,
I've been part of many car clubs through the years, been to many shows and taken part in many events. It has been a pleasurable and memorable experience, i've been to many places, plenty of race tracks, seen many an exotic car and had a right laugh whilst doing so. I've made many a dear friend and made some lifelong contacts who will no doubt keep me and my passion entertained.
However there is an issue that is pretty close to my heart that needs to be addressed.
Over the years i've noticed that many Pakistani guys are given the cold shoulder at events for various reasons. There is often little halal food, often alcohol and unless the person is a coconut (like me lol) they will find it hard to fit in. Now don't get me wrong I don't expect anyone to specifically cater for us as i'm well versed in the public general perception towards us being that we are pretty much trying to take over and the general hatred there is towards us and our religion. However the veiled racism and favoritism cannot be ignored. I've seen guys turn up at meets in decent cars and pretty much ignored outright. A friend of mine in a very powerful Mitsubishi Evo was given the cold shoulder recently at an Evo meet where online everyone was raving about his car but when it came to real life, they saw his beard and that was it. If anyone wants confirmation simply log onto pistonheads and search 'muslim' under the forum and read the comments that follow.
It is not as if the Pakistani folk in the UK don't have the right cars. By gosh, i think our collective motor collection is pretty impressive by anyone's standards. I am also aware we have our fair share of idiots however they can be dealt with efficiently and effectively.
I am in talk with a few like minded individuals in regards to holding meets NOT solely for Pakistanis but meets that are pretty Pakistani friendly. Meets where halal food is available, meets that are legal and held responsibly... you get the picture...
The sole aim will not be to expand into a big massive club. Quality is always better than quantity. The aim will simply be to give 'apne' a chance in the motoring world, a meet where they will be welcomed by like minded individuals not ignored or given the cold shoulder due to their religion or colour. This does not mean non Muslims or not Pakistanis will be excluded from the club. Just like Islam, everyone is welcome.
My plan is to hold various meets throughout the West Midlands and perhaps further including runs out to various events as a group, runs out for a drive, off road events, pretty much anything car related really. In the process we could raise money for charities (local and further afield), work out discounts for local garages for members etc.
At the moment it's just a little idea me and a few like minded individuals have had and will be looking into a bit more seriously very soon.
I would like honest thoughts and opinions from you guys and if anyone local to Birmingham would like to get involved... well
