I'm sorry.But i didn't get the point in wasting OUR tax money on these things??Our airbases+airports are located in such a way that our international border is within 2-8 mins away for fighter planes.
Plus now it's missile technology which is leading the way not the fighter planes.

^technically every strong airforce in the world has this capability, so why can't we have it? nobody knows what happens in a war, maybe the bases close to the borders get destroyed, so we definately need an alternate source of fueling the aircrafts.

It would have been better to get some drones of their own than relying on other peoples drones than get something they do not require now :S giving them fabricated satisfaction

This is nonsense, why would we need 2 air refuelling stations, when we only have 30 real fighter planes, of which maybe only 20 are operational. And i don't see why we need to go on long range airstrike missions. total waste of money.

only a year or so has passed since this thread was started and already we are hosting raptors on private air bases...

BTW even though these tankers are not designed for use with F-16's do note that this country has some of the best reverse engineering in the world and they will have probably come up with a solution already (except cruising/refueling speed possibly)

what kind of refuelling probe does the IL have?? and can someone remind me if our f16's have a mid air refuelling port??

if they do then this company which emphasizes on inter millitary compatability will probrably make it work...

also does anyone know if these are the 76 version or the dedicated tanker IL 78??

the difference being that the 76 can be converted to a transport role because the fuel tanks can be removed but the 78 is only a tanker and nothing else??

they got them from the ukraine, they are IL-78MP MIDAS versions....
