1. Is it safe to visit India? (due to disputes b/w both the countries)

in this Case NO ! and you know reasons

2. Is it possible to visit India by-road?

Yeah ! I think By Bus.. I dont know wheater anyone can go on a Private

3. If YES to No.1 and NO to No. 2, then what is the procedure to go to india, I mean visa requirements, etc.

4. Average cost of 2 weeks stay with average level of accommodation, etc.?

I would Say Go To Taj Mahal. Rest of the india is Just like some parts of Pakistan.

i visited India in augusy 2005 ..
i guess from USA to India is different from Pakistan to India.
when i went, exchange rate was 1.43
went from aero asia i think :S
ticket was for 16000 return
went to new dehli.... u can get visa for 1 state only ..... or go by bus or train .. thats cheap and u get open visa .. u will just have to go to the police station of the area to inform.
police was helpful .. although there were some bad ppl too ... some were not so happy to see someone from Pakistan ... while many greeted us.
things are expensive or of same rate there ....
Hindus are polite and calm ppl .... be a bit careful with Muslims ... they are like us
stayed in ram n sita international in nehru nagar i think :S
daily was rs. 1400 Indian .... 3 beds
things may seem cheap to u but please convert it into our money ..
do visit karims hotel, tulip temple, chandni chowk, unsal plaza etc etc if u go to Dehli.
we were searching hotel near to 15 august so police gave a notice that dont give rooms to Pakistanies and Bangladeshies ... we had to ask police to give us reference and they did.
i still remember i cried for many days because of that level of poverty over there. just ignore the poor ppl and help them time to time.
rest is easy .. i got the visa in 1 day although i diddent went to embassy
nothing special .. i went on medical visa because i had a gamma knife suregery there which is un availible in Pakistan.
do visit India .. its fun.

yes to add .. transport was cheap .. even in dehli .. atleast cheaper than lhr ...
everything was made in India .. i bought a gillete razor.. it couldent shave me once ... bought sunsilk shampoo .. that was like water and greese .. we are happy with imported stuff .. atleast they work ....
food was good and cheap ....

Hi I am not in India but I can help with answers:

1. Is it safe to visit India? (due to disputes b/w both the countries): Yes it is quite safe to visit India. Single Pakistani men would not be taken kindly by security establishments but if you are going with family, you would be welcome everywhere and by everyone. If you are going single ordinary people and the govt. both may welcome you on the face but I am not sure from the heart. I am sorry this has happened due to the terrorist incidents which have happened recently in the last 5 years.

2. Is it possible to visit India by-road? Yes it is possible to Visit India by Lahore Delhi Bus which costs INR 950 Rupees

3. If YES to No.1 and NO to No. 2, then what is the procedure to go to india, I mean visa requirements, etc. You have to apply for the Indian Visa in Islamabad and you will get a single entry Visa for one month pretty easily.

4. Average cost of 2 weeks stay with average level of accommodation, etc.? Now this is the tricky part. If you are going in Winters, India is such a sought after destinations that Hotels will cost you an arm and a leg. Expect Minimum hotel prices to start at INR 500 Rupees but a good decent hotel will start at INR 2000 Per Day.

5. What are the best places to visit in India? DELHI AGRA JAIPUR IS A GOOD START. BUT IF YOU PLAN TO VISIT FOR 2 WEEKS DO INCLUDE EITHER GOA OR KERALA IN YOUR TRIP. GOA IS CERTAINLY WORTHWILE IN WINTERS. EXPECT HEAVY RUSH OF WHITE CROWDS AND EXPENSIVE HOTELS.

6. Can there be any business prospects of the visit? (means can I take some thing from Pakistan to sell it in India and bring some stuff back to Pakistan for sale). Please dont try that. It works better with the Train from Lahore to Attari. Not on the bus.

7. What stuff can be imported from India and exported to India? EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE IN INDIA IS MADE IN INDIA so there are loads of things you can think off, But I am not sure you will be taken kindly by Pakistani Customs, So check with them even before you think of carrying anying.

8. What are the DOs and DON'Ts on the visit to India?
   DOs:
   i) Always carry bottled water (Available everywhere).
   ii) Trust people, they will go out of their way to help.
   iii) Read Newspapers to know whats happening in the city. India is full of daily dramas, theatre and music shows if you like them.
   iv) Visit travel forums like www.tripadvisor.com or www.virtualtourist.com and visit Indian City forums to know what you wish to.
   v) Come back in this thread to ask more questions you have.
   vi) Always remember that during peak seasons no one is in a welcome mode (they are flush with tourists) so travelling in off-peak season will be more memorable.

DONTS:
i) Dont be afraid or apologetic to anyone including the police if anyone tries to scare or threaten you. Be respectful but straightforward. Always ask the irritating person who is your boss and go forward and complain. People are held accountable.

ii) If you dont like anything at service either in hotel or resturants, DONT be quiet. Go ahead and complain. Service industry goes out of its way to help.

Visit Chennai......God forbid, you have an encounter with a Chennai city cop.....!!....i got pulled over once when i was there....the cop wanted me to take a breathalyzer test....any US driver's licence is valid in India, so that part was ok....the sad part was that i was reeking of spirits!!...i said i was from the US etc......he told me he didn't give a s*it!!...he let me off with a warning after making me stand around for about 10 min!....no bribery in Chennai , folks!...they have fast Hyundai Accent police cars there now.....they'll get you....
