Nikkor 18-105 gives you best results for it's price range, obviously this lens lies in the kit lens category that's why people tent to give negative reviews about it, but again for it's price it's a very kool lens and gives you very good and sharp results as you can see Asif pictures all of them are crisp, clear and sharp as in my case too, So I can definitely say that this lens is good for it's price.
Well I am planning on getting some primes, and special purpose lenses to get more creativity in my photography that's the only reason people tent to get more costly lenses as they gives you much more then the average picture, Always put your investment in the Glass rather then the body as the lenses are more costlier, if a Body is costly let say if you use Nikon D600 or D800 and then use the average 18-105 or any basic fx category lens then you won't get great pictures as the body is not act alone glass is more important then the body, this is what I think.
