its done the exact same way you service an A/C - with a refrigerator you have to add a service port to it (weld it or buy a pinch type). I replaced my whirlpool compressor, the kit came with a new drier which had the high side port. and I added another port to the service line.
The port which I used to discharge it was the pinch type which you clamp on to the service line.
I then permanently welded a port to the service line and removed the pinch one (I can use it later on some other unit like a window A/C) - attach a vacuum pump to both - leave it running for an hour, added exactly 5 ounces of R134a refrigerant and job was complete.
Its working perfect for a year now. (Its a 28cu ft, French door)
In Pakistan I have seen them add the port - do the job (without vacuum of course) - use a pliers to pinch the service port line where they attached their port and remove the port. Then blame "china gas", "jenyan setting", purana maadil etc. when the unit does not perform as required.
