Full dc is a marketing gimmick. Almost all flagship models have dc compressors and fans and are full dc.

One addition that most Pak assembled ACs don’t have is the electronic expansion valve (EEV) that is usually found in “full” dc ACs. Only kenwood 1866s onyx has it. And some R32 gas models from others. But it doesn’t make any noticeable difference. Onyx performs the same as other flagship ACs in terms of performance and energy consumption.

The inverter ac should be sized properly for the appropriate room / its heat profile, and it will do its job.

Before any component goes bad it’s usually the coils that can leak in ACs. And you will notice no AC company offers long warranty on coils.

Been following this thread for a pretty long time, need some advice of my own. One of my ACs (Haier 1 ton inverter) has developed a leaking coil. I had the coil previously replaced by a new unit from the company in 2023. The coil has leaked again. What can cause this? Shouldn't coils last atleast 3 years in Karachi's environment? I clean my filters religiously.

The company has quoted me 23K for a new coil + gas recharge. I've found one for 14K from an independent shop. Should I go for the cheaper option?

Vacuuming is very important during installation. Did you vacuum it in 2023? And yes new coil should last 3 seasons at least

Doesn't matter, as long as you keep filters clean, coil can last quite longer.

Should I go for the cheaper option?

Idk whether is it worth to spend extra 9k which will also fail. If you want, go for reputable independent repair.

I got it changed today via Haier, 22.5K for new coil + gas recharge with exchanging my old coil. The U joints were rusty, mostly surface rust + some of it had penetrated into the base of the joints, that's probably where it leaked from.

This time they vacuumed the system, they did not do that the last time.

Difference was around 2K, Haier sold me just the coil for 16K (22.5K with recharge), the other shop was selling it to me for 14.5 (20K with gas recharge).

Oh then 100% go for Haier's service and have peace of mind. (at least more than independent repair)

Can anyone guide me that I have concealed piping of copper pipe when the house was built 25 years ago? We were using the General 2 Ton Split units on those pipes so there size doesn't match with the current inverter pipes. I think its 3/8 and 5/8. Can I connect orient 1.5 ton Inverter on these pipes by welding it or using reducer/converter?

yes you can. no issue. but the joint MUST be done properly. leak tight

but considering the age of the piping. you must do a pressure test to make sure those pipes can hold pressure

Aoa. Could someone please explain this to me.

I talked to a former gree tech if he uses a vacuum pump during installation. He said you only need it for r32 gas ones.

I asked about r410a which is i think most common now. He said they can vacuum it from the compressor, self vacuum. I just could not understand what he meant. If he has a vacuum pump for an ac system with r32 gas, can the same not be used on r410a systems?

just check manual, if it says vacuum required show it to the mechanic.

All manuals I have seen say to use vacuum. The gree ac's I have also say, but no one has or bothers to get one, even company techs dont use. I have pointed this to them in the past, but its not part of their SOPs.

Its because none of them have an actual vaccum pump. When you question it, they instantly become aggressive and simply state that it’s either not required in a new ac since its a sealed brand new unit etc.

All they have is the ac compressor turned into a vaccum and its actually really frustrating. One guy did although told me that they do install it the proper way with an actual vaccum pump are the MIDEA official installers in Lahore but since they were so over occupied last season that I couldn’t book them for an installation.

Have read in the past somewhere here that Daikin installers also have vacuum pumps .. mostly do commercial installations but can be contacted for home based for extra charge .
