Is 18 inch rim too much for the 2014 civic?

If I've understood correctly and have to conclude accordingly, I guess, it's a fact that with every notch up, ride comfort gets compromised with the benefit of added road grip, handling and a sportier feel. How much the ride quality degrades and comfort compromised, I suppose depends upon the driver as to how he perceives it. An average car with even stock tyre size and quality tyres will develop rattles over a period of time after having suffered our road conditions. While it's a fact, nevertheless, I fail to understand why would a Civic or Corolla with healthy suspension make the ride harsh with 17". And harsh is a pretty strong word to describe driving characteristics in its own self

Yep, no doubt about that - the lowest spec mercs n beemers come with 17s in the UK and go up to 19s.

Here, the Accord comes with 17s. The CRZ does too i think.

Road grip and handling will be gained but to some minor extent unless you get the coilovers installed. Rattle sound do comes in cars but at least after spending 4-5 years (im referring to the new ones) anyhow its upto you. And yess a stock healthy suspension of Civic-Rolla gets harsh with 17s because they are designed for their factory wheel dimensions, moreover the tires on 17s gets more low profile (thin) and we know tires also works as a shock absorber so thats the reason behind for a harsh ride.
Be wise to your car while selecting some aftermarket wheels and tires.

Insanely expensive. This is the final price tag after lots of bargaining. So what do you guys think? Worth the shot or waste of greens? I'm also planning to get hold of coil overs (some branded ones) to go with new setup. So any ideas?

trust me on that
they are not at all worth the hype
hard, noisy and very very overpriced tyres
you are wayy better off with advan dbs or michelin equivalent. will cost you much less and the ride is fantastic. I was running yoko dna db 225/45/17s on my corolla for 4 years. went upto 180. drove on all sorts of roads. never had a single issue. the rims you have mentioned cost 75-80k for 17s. And the tyres will set you back 50 or max 60k.

Advan DB is I guess 13 to 14k per tyre. Best bet is to get slightly used tyres and rims. Set of both rims and tyres will be available by 50 to 65k. Depending on tyre brand.

18s on civic reborn is no problem as u know FD2 civic type r comes in 18s stock oem rims.....but we hve to be careful with our roads with so many potholes....I used to drive 17s on civic reborn for autocross only

My personal opinion:
You've said yourself before in another thread, if i can recall, that we, here in Pk, tend to treat our cars as supposed performance cars. Keeping in line with that, i think that anything over around 100,000 on just rim + rubber is uncalled for on our DM cars. It could be easily justified if your pockets were deep but even then a civic is still a civic. I'm only a student living in Pakistan for an indefinite period before i return home, to the UK; if i were to live here, though, on permanent basis, i would most definitely be driving a german car and not a wee humble CITY. What i mean by saying all this is that if you can spend so much on just shoes, you'd probably have enough funds to buy yourself a 3 series or C Class, soon if not right now

Back to the OP. To answer his question, all by coincidence, i saw a new shape Civic today at the bank rolling on 19s, yes 19s in Fsd! I wanted to go and shake the guys hand and tell him i salute his bravery haha. It looked amazing though!!
