Let me briefly tell you my story. I had to move from Lahore to Karachi in late 2012 while I had never been to Karachi before except one time when I stayed a night in KHI in 2007. My image of Karachi was so bad that I was expecting some stray bullet would hit me as soon as I leave Daewoo bus stand to get some cab or some snatchers would rob me etc. etc. And I am safe and sound even after 5 years Alhumdulillah. I found rush in bazars in general and specifically on occasions like chand raat was no less/different than Lahore/FSD/ISB etc. I even returned home as late as 3:00 AM several times without any problem. So I am living here as normal as I had been living in Lahore.
One more story, I don't remember the year but it was the time when dengue patients were first reported in Lahore. I happened to travel from Peshawar to Lahore using Niazi Bus Service. When the bus was about to enter Lahore, a number of fellow passengers started to apply MOSPEL and I was like WTH.
So, who was the culprit behind making so bad image of Karachi in my mind or image of Lahore in minds of those passengers who were expecting that may be 100's of mosquitoes are going to attack them as soon as they disembark from the bus? It was our media of course and rumors. Incidents happen everywhere. Check street crimes rate in US. And about the post you highlighted in the pic; I happened to go to Kathmandu, Nepal. I was surprised to see so many foreigners there. When I went to THAMEL Bazar for shopping, it was looking like I was roaming some market in downtown of some country in Europe. There were foreigners (Angrez specifically) everywhere you looked. And the city was a way more filthier than most of the cities in Punjab. You could compare the city's filthiness with Karachi though.
How about India? I read some news in recent past when a number of foreigners were raped and assaulted in GOA but that didn't make much bad impression on the image of India. About the last comment in ur pic, I personally experienced that in Malaysia, Although liquor is readily available to every non-Muslim, yet drinking isn't as open as in non-Muslim countries. Similarly, You can find a huge number of liquor shops here in Karachi in every corner of the city being operated under the license of excise department where non-Muslim can easily obtain liquors (that option is condemn-able though as Alcohol should completely be banned in Pakistan).
So, the verdict is, Yes we do need to reshape our attitudes but only that might not do much to make a better image of Pakistan. Government needs to reshape its policies to encourage tourists activities like ease visa policies, formulate strict rules for media, promotion of recreational activities in northern Pakistan particularly etc. etc.
