While preparing for trip I searched a lot on crossing babusar top from chilas side but found info about naran side only.
So i'll make a little write up for those who are planning to cross babusar top from chilas side to reach naran.
From chilas KKH junction babusar top is 43 kilometers this is when you are at the top of pass. About 3 hours drive.
road condition from Chilas to babusar top.
Road condition is mostly very good, near top/peak road is under construction, basic turf work is done which is good enough for normal car tyre grip. Gradual up hill ascending, towards top it becomes stiff ascending with car going in first and second gear only.
Didn't find glacier, even though it was pretty early in season.
No muds on the road.
Except one river all bridge work is complete, even on that river all work is complete, it's just matter of a day to put the concrete slabs on the pillers and bridge would be ready, not sure why FWO is delaying.
Due to river crossing normal car can only cross it early in the morning, during rain or late afternoon there is high chance car might drown. We witnessed one Corolla XLI soaking in water that tried to cross river in evening!
It's not difficult to get to babusar top from chilas if:
1- it's not raining
2- early in the morning
3- good driving skills
from babusar to lulusar lake
Going down hill from babusar till lalusar lake is easy.
There is mud but because car is going down so easy to pass through
This area we didn't find any major hurdle, there was mud but no issue
Road is paved with turf work done.
from lulusar lake to jalkhad
At lulusar lake there are glaciers with deep mud, need good driving skills to pass through that.
Mud tracks are deep due to commercial traffic (trucks/buses).
Off load all car passengers while crossing these muddy glaciers
Don't drive in the wheel tracks, try to put tyres out of these tracks
Because we are going downhill so bit easier
Make dua that you don't get stuck in the mud
Once past lulusar lake it becomes easier, still there are plenty of rocks to dodge your car
Need good driving skills to go through such rocky rock or else car engine would get damaged
After Basal road is metalled and good till jalkhad -no worries.
I think I can't drive my car from naran to babusar top due to mud/glaciers, but other way around is different ball game.
good luck
