two of my cousins are in airforce, I got to discuss the same 'issue' at Sq 19 mess hall with pilots and they were of the view that give them F-7 at 30 K feet , with side winders and cannon, and they are ready to take on any aircraft.

as for BVR as some body asked, plz read about SD-10.

I am following this aircraft since it was designated as Mig-33 and having army / airforce family background i certainly know how to follow such projects

U will only understand this aircraft only if u are not indian !!!

Firstly YOU are not the ONLY one here who has people in the airforce or even a background. You simply have NO IDEA about what other members on this forum are.

As for your cousins, I respect their passion. Maybe their statement was enough for you but people who KNOW A BIT about AEROPLANES will definately ask them what makes them so sure. Obviously the adversary pilot will also have a bit of brains so that statement just shows Jazba nothing else. And iam not saying jazba is useless or anything.

For the rest, think before claiming yourself to be an aviation master or something!

There is a shop outside Kamra AFB where these models are regularly made. You can ask them for the decals. They will get you made.
If you cant go there, then visit Hobby Lobby on mailbulevard [opposite Falcon Complex/Saint Mary Park/Mini golf] and ask them for the decals. First they will say no but insist them and offer them a handsome amount to get you made.

As they are not redily available anywhere.

Yes, I know about the SD-10, and I stand by the fact that if and when it is integrated, it will be LIMITED BVR for JF-17.

btw, i can't understand why some people call it a pakistani aircraft? its like saying corollas are pakistani's because they are assembled in pakistan. just because all the plastic parts are made in pakistan doesnt really make rolla a local car... the electronics, the engine (brain and heart) are always foreign. (be it JF17 or rolla). As far as planes are concerned, even their bodies aren't local!!

and guess what, while i was working at risalpur (airforce academy), i found out that even MASHAK and Super Mashak are not produced locally. we basically assemble them from imported kits.. lols..

i hope we progress as a nation asap and really start producing stuff locally, esp engines, good metals, electronics etc!!

Just to move the topic along, I think that the critical near-term improvements that are needed for the JF-17 include:

1. Integrating the SD-10A to provide a modicum of BVR capability. (The integration was supposed to be completed in September with the first live firing before the winter, but no news yet.)

2. Getting the WS-13 powerplant with >2,000 hr MTBO and smokeless performance. (There is one prototype flying in China with this engine, but no details so far whether targets of power to weight or MTBO will be met.)

3. Proving good high-angle of attack performance without stalling or flameouts. (I think this will be achieved as pilots get comfortable with flying this plane.)
