@haceeb and @hummy,

Guys it is great that you are so proud of our pride The JF-17.

But there is one thing we should be rather Objective and Rationale rather than emotional about our approach!

SAAB AEWACS, excellent option as far as our budget will allow.........truly a thing for the Enemy to worry about.

But i think the SAAB2000 will only be purchased by the PAF and NOT by the PIA, who have opted for ATR-42 correct me if I am wrong. It was an option for PIA but I think no more. So I agree with you that this platform is a solid defence.

The second important thing is the JF17. While it is a great fighter but not as good as you have made it to be. No comparisons with the F-16,you may laugh at me but ask pple who know. Even the J-10 will have a very hard time beating the F16(talking about the newB52 ones).

I think as mentioned by @jumbojet the best aircraft which the PAF have for a foreseeable future will be the new F16.

Never the less JF17 and J10 are great achievement for us a nation and we should be proud of it.

Pakistan wants cooperation with NSGs

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri said that countrys economy is booming hence the countrys energy requirements are increasing, and therefore world should help Pakistan to fulfil its energy requirements.

Khurshid Mehmood said, “The European countries should adopt criteria based approach and extend cooperation to Pakistan for a peaceful nuclear programme.”

He said the country requires infrastructure to use nuclear technology in a peaceful manner for producing energy. Therefore, the European Union and in particular, the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), should extend its help to Pakistan, he added.

Referring to US-Indian cooperation in the field of nuclear technology, Kasuri said the NSG should fulfil Pakistan’s requirement in this regard as Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power.

He commented while at the French embassy that France and Pakistan enjoy close ties, and there has been coordination and cooperation between the two countries in various fields including defence.

He also appreciated the role of the French government and its NGOs in helping Pakistan after the October 2005 earthquake disaster.

Kasuri especially referred to the cooperation between the two countries in the defence field saying that Pakistan is currently negotiating equipment for its JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter with France and a submarine deal.

Replying to a question about the West’s demand for Pakistan “to do more in war against terrorism”, Kasuri said Pakistan has done a lot and it is the now the West and the rest of the world’s turn to do more.

Pakistan looking for French Equipment for the Thunder

Recent reports suggest that Pakistan may be interested in the French missiles and the radar to equip its JF-17 Thunder aircraft that was built in collaboration with China.

The JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter is currently going through a selection process to equip a radar and missiles which would be a main stay for Pakistan Air Force for the long term.

Janes Defence Weekly, recently suggested that supplying of the missiles and radar to Pakistan could end up transfer of technology to the Chinese.

However, there is no significant proof that Pakistan has every supplied China with anything, or for that matter any rumours. It is true, if the technology is transfered that means major breakthrough for the Chinese defence industry as in regards to air-to-air missiles which Chinese scientists can later research on.

But basically it doesn't work this way. If there are proper agreements with Pakistan on the purchase than these things are not much of a big concern that Taiwan should worry about.

Companies from United States, South Africa and France are currently in competition for this deal.

Thats very right. The New F-16s Block 50/52 will be front line fighters of PAF.

PAF Air Cheif Marshall Tanveer Mehmood said in an interview that F-16 is a very capble jet and and even though the PAF was offered a very good deal for Saab Gripens. they chose the F-16 as it is truly multi role and the Gripen is more suited for air superiority.

He also said that F-16 is the most mature 4th gen platform to acquire for the air force.

China to export Russian jet engines to Pakistan: PAF

* PAF expected to receive first eight engines in the next few months

LONDON: India appears to have failed in persuading its principal military ally, Russia, to stop China from supplying Russian-made RD-93 aircraft engines to Pakistan, according to a report in Jane’s Defence Weekly

Pakistan and China are partners in the Joint Fighter-17 (JF-17) Thunder programme.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed told the British journal that the PAF expected to receive the first eight JF-17s powered by RD-93 engines in the next few months.

In a thinly veiled reference to India lobbying Russia to pressure China not to export the engines to Pakistan, Ahmed dismissed concerns over the engines as “an issue created from here and there”.

“We [China and Pakistan] are partners in the JF-17 (Y) aircraft and avionics but the engine is exclusively from Russia and China has the contract for it,” Ahmed said. Vested interests, he added, had pushed this issue into the media.

Former Indian Air Force (IAF) chief SP Tyagi had declared in a classified three-page letter last year to then defence minister Pranab Mukherjee, “Unless immediate steps are taken to arrest the reduction in the IAF’s [power], the nation will for the first time in its history lose the conventional military edge over Pakistan.” online

They probably have not even been able to lift it off the ground, despite Russia helping them for the past 20+ years.

AH! I am still to see a JF 17 roaring across our skies. One PAF Base is a few kms away from my house and when the wind is in the usual direction, all the planes that land at that base go over our area. I see F16s C130s Mushaak etc. very regularly . Hopefully one day I'll see the Thunder as well.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) may operate a mixed fleet of JF-17 fighter aircraft with some using Chinese radars and missiles and others operating French radars and air-to-air missiles, according to senior Pakistani officials.

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) is currently considering an offer from France's defence procurement agency (Délegation Générale pour l'Armement - DGA) to supply Thales RC 400 radars and MBDA MICA air-to-air missiles for integration onto the JF-17 fighter, which is being produced co-operatively with China's Chengdu Aircraft Industries Group.

The programme's managers told Jane's that they are
"quite serious"
about integrating this European equipment onto the JF-17 and that the
"offer to purchase this equipment is also quite serious"

Currently the PAC and the PAF are conducting flight evaluations of prototype aircraft fitted with the Chinese-built NRIET KLJ-10 radar and SD-10 medium-range air-to-air missile.
