Amazing tour bro!! Great explanation n superb Adventure! I missed Fairy Meadows this year! But after looking at your pics! The urge for fairy meadows became more stronger!! Thanks for sharing the adventure =)
So finally you came back after taking the blessing of holy month of Ramzan. Can you confirm about the travel time & distance between Astore to Tarashing & Tarashing to Chilim (if you went Chilim directly from Tarashing)?
Distance between Astore and Chilum Chowki is roughly 52KM and travel time is 2-2.5 hours and the road is in very good condition.....For Tarashing one has to travel 20 KM on the Astore-Chilum Chowki road upto a place called Gorikot. From here the right turn will take one to Tarashing. The time taken after this turn to Tarashing was roughly 1.5 hour. So total time from Astore to Tarashing will be roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. For Chilum from Tarashing one has to travel back the 1.5 hour to Gorikot and then further 1-1.5 hours to Chilum. This makes the total time to about 2.5-3 hours to Chilum from Tarashing. Road Between Gorikot and Tarashing is not metaled. It is a dirt track although I saw a few local cars there but I think a high clearance vehicle is advisable for this track ( A 4WD is not absolutely necessary for this track).
what abt jeep trek ahead tarishang? Or it ends there and ahead tarishang only trek up2 rupal etc?
there is a good track uptill trashing from astore... even cars go there..... like mehran and corolla. but from trashing to rupal is all trek.
Gorikot to Tarashing:This was a very fantastic track along a roaring Nala. The road/track condition was just OK i.e although it was not carpeted but still it was not a 4WD only track. Any vehicle with a high ground clearance can travel there. We saw a few local vehicles (Cars whose models I don't know) there. It will take almost 60-90 minutes for the said track. The Nala which we followed to reach Tarashing....
A small wooden bridge on the Nala....
The track going along the Nala....
A white water stream falling into the Nala.....
A clear blue Nala joining and the contrast of colors of the two waters....
Some absolutely beautiful villages before Tarashing...... They were lush green with all kind of crops and vegetation....
Near Tarashing the road/track leaves the Nala and ascend towards the ridge.....
A local car near Tarashing....
A village on the other side of the river....
Our first view of the giants. This was Raikot peak....
Reaching very near to Tarashing and the Raikot glacier is visible..... It was a very wonderful place with water and greenery in the foreground and the glacier in the back. Definitely a place to relax and spend some time....
Tarashing:Finally reached Tarashing after about 90 minutes of traveling..... It was a medium sized town with couple of hotels for accommodation. Very Very beautiful and amazing town....The only problem was that there were dense and black clouds over the Nanga Parbat and it was completely invisible. But still we enjoyed our brief stay at Tarashing.
The glacier....
