For all those fellows who were asking about my consultation with Dr. Anwar (Dubai). Here is the summary of my visit;
Dr. Anwar is specialized in Partial Transplant of Cornea. As per him, he invented this technique of surgery. He is doing Partial Cornea Transplants since 10-12 years and he told me that there is no complaint so far for any defects/rejections in treatments done.
If anyone here is not aware of difference b/w Partial & Full Transplant then, full transplant requires a donor cornea. Full transplant has few constraints; 1) It's acceptance chances are 80-85% means 15-20% chance of rejection is always there. 2) It's life is maximum 20 years, means patient will have to repeat the transplant again after 15-20 years.
Regarding Partial Transplant, there is no donor cornea required. As per Dr. Anwar, he replicates existing tissues of patient. It's success rate is almost 99% and there is no need to repeat surgery after 15-20 years.
Now regarding surgery cost, total expense is AED 45,000/- (This includes cost of surgery, one/two days hospital stay, initial medicines, one year free consultation)
Dr. Anwar might arrange 5-6% discount aswell.
Important, must read this!
Now the confusing part which is stoping me to decide anything further. I was asked to check with insurance incharge handling this surgery. As per that guy, the breakup of AED 45k includes; 35k for Surgery, Hospitalization, Medicines etc and rest of 10k is for Donor Cornea!!! Yes, two different statements, Dr. Anwar saying no donor cornea is required. Whereas technician saying that there is no way this surgery can be done without donor cornea! He said, we'll order cornea from US and it will cost AED 10k!!
(I was really short of time for going back to Dr. Anwar and ask about this confusion. I'll go again some time)
Right now I'm not sure that who is right and who is wrong.
Anyone here having further details of Partial Transplant, please share?
