Though i am not expert but i think that K20 will be lot more expensive being newer technology. The number of swaps of H22 are lot more common here. There is a member selling is K20 motor, his nick is ahad_civic (i think). Whatever engine you go for out of these two i believe you will have to change your transmission..

u have to swap the transmission along wth the engine hence hav to use the transmision of the engine which u will swap in.

If u chose K20 or K24 wth auto trans it might even cost u less then H22a but Manual trans engine will cost u alot.Yet calibering K series is not easy u hav to instal EMS like K Pro on k engine without it it will not run proper but on otherside u have to mount n wire the H22 n sum other minor work thts it

hello pakwheelers.. guys i have been wondering which engine would be better in the light of performance, reliability and cost? i have a civic 05 and want to change the engine because i want more power under the hood..and is changing the transmission from auto to manual a good dea?

I had JDM red top Type S H22 swapped in my 5th gen Prelude - wasn't bad at all. And the Prelude, being based upon Accord platform, is quite a heavy car compared to Civic.

Now the red top H22 is expensive and rare, may cost twice as much as the black top, but IMHO doesn't perform twice much better. So I'd recommend black top H22.
A good one from some Prelude my cost you around 1.5 lac for complete setup - and it really worths the money + old H22s are OBD-1 = chipable ECUs. Alternatively an OBD-2 F20B can also be fetched for the same kind of money and power but a bit lesser torque.

About the reliability, these engines were called 'bomb proof' in their times. So no issues. All Honda engines are solid reliable with NA setup AFAIK. No experience with boost though.

But I don't think H22 will sit well in 7th gen Civic, han??? So you're better off with K20 I guess :S All I know about K20 is that its more expensive than H22 + lesser torque + ligheter than H22 + must be more fuel economical.

Plus the K20 is a direct fit to 05 models, as in my car, i didnt touch the body of the car, we made mounts and everything else in accordance with the stock d17 motor so whenever we want to put the d17 back in, all we need to do is the fitting, no alterations

where as for B or H22, its gna be hell to put it in, too many alterations, resulting in a horrible drivabality of the car etc etc.

Sir 100-120K Rs for H22 and 130-150K Rs for K20 depending on condition and accessories and who is installing.

In addition to what Mr. ahad_civic has already said:

Why would anyone try to fit a B18 or H22 in an Eagle Eye Civic is beyond me.

So K20 is as good as it can get.

I do not think that K20 would be available anywhere else then Sher Shah like at Bilal Gunj or Shoba bazar.

doubling that 05 civic , you should go K only , to be honest B, Hs are old now , they were king in thier own sweet still gives you best bang for bucks , if you have an older gen car.

the future and present is all K series. i own a JDM K Type R and i love every moment of it - Car is highly responsive to MODs tho a bit expensive has KPRO and stage II Brian Crower and all the shenanigans (Ti VSps/I/H/E/TB etc)

oops didnt knew tht chalo it will be a GAS gazler 2.0l or maybe 2.4L atleast
