Mobeen bhaisaheb: I am hearing horror stories of incredible prices for the hotels and I and my family WILL NOT be blackmailed for paying exhorbitant amounts just for a night stay...so...we have decided to take a TENT with us..ladies will be made comfortable in the Prado (I have already experimented by adjusting the seats and putting a mattress). IF it can fit a six foot/215 lbs guy then I am sure it can accomodate two of our ladies easily. The two gents will camp that will be just beside the jeep....here is my question: Should we have to camp in the Naran/Kaghan/Khanian perimeter, which place is safe enough to do it?? Is there a natural field/meadow/plain where we can camp in security and are not far away from the city/village to be able to get essentials etc?? Kindly advise...This Tent would give us the freedom to stay/travel longer then the planned 5 day trip and my family is ready for this adventure SHOULD we have to do it...Regards

I think u can camp at all three locations. Khanian, Kaghan and Naran.

Khanian Pine Park premises is good option.
Then in Kaghan, go down towards left of bazar where 2,3 hotels are situated. One of them has lawn which u can use for camping by paying a nominal amount.
In Naran, u can camp along with tent city and can use washrooms by paying fee to some tent owner there.

You will see hundreds of tents in Naran in season so no issues.

Paras is the location from where jeep track starts for Sharan.

There is a small hotel near the turn. There may be other hotels as well.

You have to park vehicle at Paras and jeep driver can help.

I am back after a fantabulous trip of Naran and Kaghan Valley on Monday...! I will answer your questions one by one (you may know the answers already by now), but I am kind of a person who don't use Internet when so much is on offer, by nature

1- Road condition from Kiwai to Shogran is not very good, it is under construction but ALL kind of vehicles can go to Shogran.
2- Kiwai to Siri Paye is a jeepable track and is open. I also saw a group in Vigo coming down near Siri (while going up on Jeep).

3- Saif-ul-Malook jeep track is open but it is very rough... Lots of jumps and mud/glacier/water enroute...
4- Lulusar track is also open and so is Babusar top (as per PW forum latest update). We couldn't go beyond Lulusar though, because it was closed on Jun 8th. The max we could do was, go till the other end of Lulusar lake (where it is starting).

I am sure that LSM is NOT going to be this peaceful/tranquil anymore, as the season has started. Secondly, due to ramzan falling in mid-July, most people are going to wrap up the 'Northern Areas' visit before or after Ramzan...post -Ramzan its going to be a madhouse...

This is the regular big glacier around 1 km before Naran which is usually there almost every year.

Great thread and very useful information. I visited Naran on 15th June and got back home today. One update from my side

The road from Naran onwards to Lulusar, Lalazar etc was blocked only a few kms after Naran by Army/FWO yesterday on 16th June. Army was not letting any one pass through and we had to turn back (9:00 AM 16th June). Do check if that road is open now if you plan to visit Lulusar, Lalazar or Babsur Pass.

Apparently there is a land dispute between Army and Locals and Army is trying to take possession of the land - according to locals and jeep guys.

AoA All,

A bit confusion here....

Earlier according to information of few members roads are open till babusar top whereas now accroding to latest post no body is able to go beyond few kms after naran.

Can anybody tell which information is correct. Thanks

Both are correct.

Earlier roads were blocked due to glaciers and snow and now army/FWO has blocked the road.

Picture of road block just after Naran - FWO people were there and pushing everyone back. We had to turn back and abandon our trip to Lulusar on 16th June 2012. I hope this is cleared by now but important to check with someone @ Naran.
