enigma is raising a valid point that importing ruins country's economy and preference should be made to local manufactures. Well lets not forget that there is no heavy auto mobile industry in Pakistan. They are merely assembling them with imported parts using local glue and plastic. Secondly, local business men government purchases a shuttle of permanent income and therefore operate more in mafia manner than business wise ethically.
Tata-Daewoo does have plans to assemble bus and trucks in Pakistan but plant is not fully constructed yet. The other assemblers do not have enough capacity to provide large number of buses needed. Most of them are assembling on 1970's platforms which is quite outdated today. As usual blind patriotism sucks big brown one !!
I have an imagination that as soon TATA busses hit Pakistan streets, a bunch of mullahs are gonna stone them screaming "Hindu imports..Hindu imports..an evil plan to destruct Pakistan"
Come on dudes, I agree some tata buses do look like 70's and 80's models because the fact is that they are still sticking with the designs of 70's and 80's and are aimed primarily for low cost markets. You know places where only important stuff counts. But they do have modern product line too which is comparable to 2000's standards.
