Nice rig brother.
Six months back I came very very close to buying the same rig from Hyder.
As I live in Lahore I dumped it due to the Karachi registration issue.
Any ways congrats.
Why are you planing to change to 2LT? 13B is a tank of an engine. I have a CJ 7 aswell with a 3CT and I am planing to go to either a 1KZ or a B series maybe a 2B. If you are a serious offroader 13B is a great choice, it wont disapoint you on the highways aswell.

Currently I am going thru a process of tuning my CJ 7(link below). I did not understand wot exactly are you saying when u say "aserious problem wid the left front wheel base" kindly elaborate. It might help me work on my project.

Thanks for the coment on my rig. But I know it still needs a lot of work.

Recently I have been doing some research on the engine options for my CJ.
I did talk to guys from IJC(Islamabad) and 4X4 Engaged(Lahore). A few extremely experienced guys told me to go for the Toyota 5L-E(same engine which appeared in Toyota Hilux). It is a 3.0, but slightly costly. The singapore origin 5L-E is 120K and the Japanese origin 5L-E is 145K in Peshawar. Remeber I already have a Hilux 4X4 transmission in my Jeep. So if I go for 5L-E I wont have to change the box, coz the gear box in my vehicle can fit all L series engines.
If I do go for a 1KZ then I will have to change the gear box aswell.
1KZ without gear box will cost around 85K and with around 120K. So the equation for me remains the same in both the 5L-E as well as 1KZ options.

Now coming to the pros and cons
1KZ is one hellava motor It is a 12 Valve Turbo. It is widely used in the world and australian offroaders swear on a 1KZ. If hooked properly it is wonderful both on and offroad, but it will not slove your basic problem of fuel consumption as it is commonly known as a very thirsty machine though there is a guy I know who has a 1KZ wid manual gear in his CJ in lahore and claims that it delivers 11km/L(though I do not entirely believe him).
1KZ is kwown to deliver not more than 7km/L in city and 9km/L on the highway.

5L-E is a less powerful naturally aspirated version. It is simpler to fix, hook and economical to run. It is very robust as all Toyota Diesels are but will set you back big time in terms of pocket if you go for it. Whereas 2L the earlier version will cost you much less, but it will not deliver offroad.

Currently I have a 2.2 3C turbo in my rig. My CJ wieghs 1475 Kgs unladen which is not much to pull for a 3C turbo. On Highways it is fine and delivers around 14 km/L on highway but strugles offroad as it is a high RPM motor and to get the torque in you need to rev it up. Whereas 2LT is a better choice if you compare it wid a 3CT.
There are some complaints about the 2Ls, from just a few users. But I am not sure. In my opinion 2LT is not a bad choice.

BTW how much is ur 13B delivering in city in terms of fuel consumption?

thanks for detail email.My 13 b gives me 8 in city and around 10 on the highway i tested in my recent pakistan tour .i think the 2lt give 12 in city but not confirmed .
i have also drove the new hilux but the owner told me that it is also a bad economy on fuel .his hilux its is 2010 models give 6-7 km in city.
i think you are going to install the simple engine in your rig .coz in pakistan tour i observed that the mechinic of non rfi engine avaiable any where in pakistan but if there is any problem in efi engine they dont able to handle it .i personaly faced the same problem in my tour one of our ride has 1 kz and it engine gives some strange sound after we crossed the lahore we contact some mechinics but they dont touched the engine and we gone back to lahore and fixed it but in my cj7 we fixed some small problems anywhere .
now i am puzzled what can i do either install turboin my current 13b or swap it .

Dear TM if your 13B is delivering 8 in the city and 10 on the highway it is GR8.
2LT will deliver the same figures if not worse, trust me.
If taken care of(timely oil change and service) 13B will not require a major service or overhaul for the rest of your life. 13B is one of the best in my opinion in the B series. And remember you get a 13B from Peshawar for around 180K.
So I recomend do not change it at all.

I was talking abt the rig which tim bought from hyder,.. That very rig had a problem with left front wheel, i guess it has been solved. the whole wheel was out..

Well a few facts that I can verify here are that the 2LT is not the most economical engine on a CJ7, at least with the original CJ 4.10 diffs. The 2LTs stock Hilux diffs are 4.88s and 5.32s ratios and on the TLC 70 its 4.88s. So it primarily sits out of its comfort zone in a CJ7 and in my experience on any resonable drive at best it will do 7-9 kms in the city and 9-11 kms on the highway. The diff mismatch also contributes to its somewhat lacking performance in extreme offroad, nevertheless for its size it remains a very decent trail/expedition engine and will get you anywhere and back. And here I only speak of the later model 2LT-II engines, or the 2LTEs and not of any early models as the 2LT has had a long running life.

In light of the above, taking out a 13B and putting in a 2LT does not really make much sense. In the same price you could get a 1KZT on which in my view the electronics are by now fairly well understood and quite common place anywhere in Pakistan. You have to be very careful with the wiring and the electronics on the install (and somewhat lucky too) otherwise you can reportedly end up anywhere between 5-10kms per litre. Nevertheless, a later model preferably intercooled 1KZT swap (with original wiring) should be well worth the money.

Agreeing with HSumbul, the 13B-T would personally be my first diesel engine choice for the CJ7 as it sits in best with the 4.1 diff ratios and is a b***dy B series engine which is probably amoungst the most rugged diesel engine families on the planet. I am not sure how much of a difference there is between a 13B and a 13BT but I can't imagine it to be astronomical. Since you already are at 13B I would suggest taking the plunge and finding a good mechanic and slapping on a T, which is not really all that much of a jugaar given availability of resources on the net and parts in the Shershah market.

Dear All,

I have seen the entire post and I think I can get an advise for my FJ40 1984 from you guys. Current I am running it on stock 2F 4.2L 6cyl petrol engine (4 Km/L, Saturday night enjoyment only, cant off-road) and in order get improved mileage I am thinking to swap with Diesel.

As per my homework, 2B, 3L and 1KZ can do the job but if I can get 12H-T, it will beat the engines with 9 Km/L.

I would highly appreciate if someone could advise me on engine swap with minimum hassle (e.g: gearbox change and diff tube change) and advise a good mechanic for swap in Karachi.
