I drove from Lahore to Karachi, no maps, no GPS and it was the first time driving all the way on my own, trip was in June 2010,
Vehicle: Toyota Landcruiser 4.2
Fuel Type: Diesel
Total Cost including some sand dune offroading in Cholistan and stop over to meet friends in a village near Hyderabad was around Rs. 16,000
Airconditioning used throughout, the gearbox was a 4 speed hence high revs at high speeds,
No police interruptions, entered Sindh at around 8am and was home by evening just around Maghrib.

even i like to drive without gps becuase its much better..i find gps kind of distracting and minor delays too in response but gps is useful when you dont know the ways, which i don't.

But do get acknowledged that you can only get an international driving permit on your British licence if you hold a British passport. Besides, its a lot more easier to get Pak-licence here.

yaa you are right.. you need to be a permanent resident of UK to get the international driving license.. but i have heard that if you show only UK driving license to our policemen they dont make a fuss about it...not sure how true is that..yaa i did talk to one of my uncles for the license he said maximum a week to get the license :S dont know how.. but to get a license here is a tough job..

I used to road trip from Karachi to Gujranwala and back from Gujranwala to Karachi after every 3 or 4 months on my city 2005 manual.

fuel cost neat about 4500 CNG + 1000 Petrol

I always afraid of Sindh Police, Punjab police are good...

what about the documents.. what documents one should have when going from one city to another for visiting purposes.

and can I use HID's on highways?

u only need ACLC certificate cost Rs 600/- and your registeration number and chassis number sand blasted on front and rear screen cost Rs 200-300/- and HIDS are not allowed on highway Rs 300/- for ticket for using one. over speeding Rs 750/- if more than 160km/hr then Rs 1200/- indicator sign Rs 300/- ticket. these are most common.

i drive to lahore nearly every month. The first time i went i got lost cause i didnt really know the way but that was around three years ago since then they have really imprved the road and the signage. You can easily find your way. The roads are in pretty good shape in punjab sindh is a little bumpy

i travel in
1990 pajero
costs me around 15000 rs one way

i prefer the pajero because its a bigger car and has no electrical crap that can go wrong and if something does go wrong every bloody mechanic can fix it. As in the past i had taken a prado 2002 and it started giving me a problem , which was the same case as my vigo.

However a city should be good enough for it

Advice would be to try to cross sindh during the day which means leave karachi city around 4 o clock

that NOC bulshit is only for the foreigners. in sukhar they tried that NOC on me too that didnt work than they came with a letter saying that you have to have the insurance due to many accident in this area so i told him the next 2 step is in punjab and the letter was very funny to just to get money out.

Hi, I usually travel from Islamabad to Karachi and back to Islamabad once a year.
Previously I had Honda City 2007 on petrol and now I have the same vehicle of 2011 model on petrol. I made my last trip in July 2011.

From Karachi to Islamabad, i have made the refuelling which is as follows:
1. First refuel - 22 litres at Morro after driving 342km from Karachi
2. 2nd refuel - 24 litres at Zahirpir after driving 738km from Karachi
3. 3rd refuel - 23 litres at Okara after driving 1122km from Karachi
4. 4th & last refuel - 8 litres on the first fuel station stop of M2 motorway after driving 1345km from Karachi.

In my previous 3 trips, I left Karachi early morning around 5am and experienced police interruptions on the super highway but in my last trip of July 2011, I left Karachi at 8am and there was no police on super highway.

All the relevant documents should be in the vehicle, like registration book, insurance papers, driving license etc. In some cases Police also ask for NOC for moving your vehicle from Sindh to Punjab. This is usually happen in Sindh. I am not sure how important this document is, but i have prepared one for my vehicle.

Road conditions are good. In terms of comparison, highway of Punjab is better than Sindh.

Do cross Sindh within day time (max. by evening). If you dont have GPS device, then you can try google maps on your mobile.

Follow the directional signs and stay on N5 (main highway).

Drive carefully and keep a reasonable distance with heavy trollers, trucks etc.
Out of 4 trips, the last 2 trips were non-stop and i was the only driver.

@uiv sorry dont know about N5 or N55 route but last time when i went to lahore below roads were under construction : moro area, pano aqil area and when going to lahore dont know the area name but the road was under-construction and single road upto link for motorway high for islamabad which was around 10-15kms from lahore.

On the way back, do you take Bahawalpur (N5) or Dera-Ghazi-Khan (N55) route?

This july I went to karachi and came back by road. The ride was city 2005 and it gave me around 170-185kms per cylinder with Ac at 3 and on petrol gave me around 13km/ltr with AC. The speed was kept around 100km/hr mark.While going to karachi had a night stay at sukkur. While coming back had a night stay at hyderabad and another at multan. One thing to make sure that you dont become a victim of contaminated petrol being sold on pumps on highway. I became a victim of such contaminated petrol and had to change fuel pump on return also faced difficulty while covering the last 100kms on petrol to lahore. Drive safe and be carefull roads in sindh from sukkur to Obaro is in bad shape drive slow because there are bumps that come all of a sudden so to save cars suspension its good. I got stopped twice in vicinity of multan for overspeeding in a 70km/hr area. I was caught at 103 and 101 Once I got challaned once my mother saved me challan was of only 100rs. toll tax is not enough so I think I made complete trip in 10-12k including every expenditure and thats the coolest part even daewoo for one passenger takes 6k for round trip and in car you can easily take 5 adults.

ok now i know what is n5 and N55 welll my advise is to go from N5 Bhawalphur road because in July i went by road to Multan, Gujranwal Silakot then to khushab and went back to multan via N55 route which was terrible but Kala Kahar Mountains were awesome and road of DG Khan was in bad condition and single road.
