We had a trip there during 11-15 June this year. It isn't recommended to go there in December as everything is covered with heavy snow by that time, some times abt 4-5ft. The maximum time you can go there is October but not preferable. Best time for visiting Neelam Valley is 15th July - 15th August

Bhai Sahab. This is indeed somthing extraordinary what you have achieved during your trekking towards this marvellous lake. But there is at least one thing that I can not comprehend. That you returned from the lake after the sunset, it was all dark. But here you have posted some fotos about which you have told they were taken on your wayback. So how did you take these fotos (of your returning back from the chitta katha lake) in the daylight when it was in fact the night time? Would you please tell?

I would like to share my experience visiting the beautiful Neelum valley which might be the best kept secret as very few people are aware of it.
I visited this area for the first time in 1975 as a member of hiking and mountaineering club of HasanAbdal and fell in love with the valley along with 15 other members. All of us were bewildered and baffled by its beauty and grace. Later we crossed over to the Kaghan valley after crossing the Noori Pass. If I remember correctly it was a very long and tough trek even for our superfit 16 year olds.
Later I visited the valley in 1983 on a motorbike. In Karen we again stayed at the resthouse close to the river. We could hear the children playing across the river on the Indian side. When I tried to communicate with them I was feasted with a barrage of most vulgar abuses from unseen quarters. The manager of the resthouse came running and ordered me to stop talking to people across the river as the Indian soldiers after abusing start firing. It was kind of scary incidence.
Then I visited the Neelum Valley in probably 2003 and found only the rubble of the Karen rest house I always cherished staying in. It became another unfortunate casualty of political turmoil.
You might find interesting that the historic name of River Neelum was KishanGanga. When and how it was renamed is a mystery for me. If anyone can educate me about it I would be grateful

Thank you for the kind words, it was indeed an unforgettable trek and I managed to reach the Lake and come back in one piece only and only because of the blessing of Allah.

Our downhill journey started at around 4:05pm and the last photo for the day I took was at around 6:00pm and we reached back to the hotel at Domail around 11:45pm. I hope that the confusion is cleared now.

u make my day ,as i hav seen the pictures ,coz its summer and its the proper time for hiking & trekking , so i m in bit u can say in HYPER condition, and planning u go north bt certain hurdles trying 2 overcome them ....

Hats off to you. really impressive. just went through your thread and fell in love with the beauty you have explored.

i have been to kashmir this year with my family but only went to explore rawlakot and suberbs (banjosa, toli peer, diyaraan etc etc). the greenery of Kashmir is altogether different from swat and kaghan/ naran, which can attract any one to fell in love with it.
