Update. I knew that after 30 years it was about time to replace the foil that was filled in the fork of my GTO back in 1981. At first I was tempted to unmount the whole thing but after mulling it over a bit I understood that there was no need to open a piece of steel that showed no problem at all. Good thing! This is the oil… super clean! Of course it needs replacement just for being old but I’m stunned of how well oil is preserved when the seals and packings are in good condition. What do you think?
I’ve put 140cc of a thick ATF oil in each bar as the service manual recommends. Having the service manual that you Nadeem have shared has been a blessing.
Apart from the fork service I’ve been working on the magneto and coils replacing the breaker and condenser. As I mentioned before some electrical issues were bugging the project so I took no chances.
To sum up, if everything goes as planned I’ll trying to start the engine sooner than later, fingers crossed. Although I have to admit that if the engine fires up, I’ll be both happy and nostalgic because it will be the end of a nice project, I suppose that we all feel the same when we complete or achieve something that we have been waiting to happen. When I see Nadeem’s GTO restoration I can avoid thinking that it were a bunch of weeks or months full of anecdotes and good moments. Not because of the motorcycle but because we usually remember the personal moments that we enjoyed during certain events.
Anyway, it is amazing how we are able to share hobbies with people around the globe in an instant and leaving our posts in forums like these for decades.
