i think the way is for pakwheels to arrange interview with kia management so that we can know about their strategy for bringing this car as their debut.
one more thing, this is cbu, they dont have much to loose.

What specs are confirmed for sportage ? Does anyone know 16. 2.0 or 2.4 ?

And i agree, sportage should be in the low 30's if we go by the price of the carnival.

These people are totally missing the point. Kia will be launching afforable cars. This is their high end product. Imagine the prices of afforable ones. Reasonable is the word.

For God Sake don't compare it with Toyota Hiace, its an MPV which belong to Toyota Innova, Nissan Serena, Honda Odyssey family.

For a car with these specs, it is well priced. Although the problem here is that in pakistan there isnt a demand for a luxury van.If kia did their homework right and launched Suvs like kia sorenta in this price bracket , that could still be a success.

See, succes or failure of a product is defined by how the company sets standards for success.

1. KIA had to show that their products are far more superior in soecs and they have shown it.

2. They had to show that they can offer such models at a competitive price, and yes 4million is a competitive price for such kind of mini-van.

3. Their aim is not numbers, the product requires ZERO R&D since its a CBU. no investment. The product is here to bring the brand to life and we'll see how they sustain it in future.

I have personally sat down in the car and trust me it is way more comfortable than our local cars. Their CKD production will take atleast a year, however, they decided to cash on the fact that there is already a talk in the market abiut their cars so better show the customers what to expect.

I believe their strategy is well aligned.

Apart from being a good family van for Picnic trips or weekend hangouts, it will serve good as a official van where a company is transporting its management employees from city office to factory or vice versa, similarly transporting delegates from airport to hotel or company sites, it will also serve good for embassy officials, or government officials going for a meeting or site visits, airport transfers can be easier being a 11 seater with such a big boot, long haul tours will be no problem having 80 liters of fuel tank, in Pakistan a lot of rural projects are going on so in that case if officials such as from NGO have to go on a survey, this can be the best transporter. Climbing uphill in northern areas will be a piece of cake having 270 bhp under your command.

This will be more used as a commercial vehicle i think, like APV (supposed to be a family van, but turned out to be a commercial van)

They could have atleast displayed the RIO just like they are displaying Sportage. This is a failed product with out a second thought. People didnt embrace Suzuki Vitara how does anyone defending the price of Carnival stand a chance in this thread.

Any single person who says the price is reasonable, My question when are you getting one ? People spending 4-5 million dont want to fit 11 people in a Van.

Their is a huge gap in other segments. If they can price a truck with JAC/ Shehzore / APV Pickup. They could definetly had come up with atleast a better car then a Suzuki Ciaz.

Suzuki Ciazes current selling point is only ready delivery over Corolla Xli/GLi and Honda City.

Kia could definetly tap that segment within 1200cc to 1500cc. and start with a sedan or a hatchback.

If Audi can manage smaller engines for Pakistani markets Hyundai and Kia should definetly tap thoose areas or else they simply dont seem interested.

Any one would get a Audi A3 or a Fortuner or even a Toyota Revo and not a Fortuner. Here people dont care about the Utility.

What are you going to do with a 11 Seater V6 ? goto Khujrab Pass? or your driver is going to pick up kids? or go to a fancy dinner?

In Pakistan hardly people have long drives. In the US people live in suburbs and travel to city they need higer power engines. Even the base Yaris starts at 1500cc their.

^^they've displayed the Rio along with Sportage, but only Sportage is available for test drive.

The official spec sheet. Some of the features as reported in the opening post are not there as standard.

Now personal opinion. Its a good start from KIA. I know we all want an entry level hatchback or mid size sedan which is the need of masses. I am sure we will see them soon in near future when the local assembly starts. KIA launched Carnival and that too at very attractive price. Attractive for the fact that its CBU/ imported variant. We all know that vehicles are taxed on engine displacement in Pakistan on import and if we compare the prices with international variant with respect to standard features and options, I know its still higher but keep in mind the duties and other overheads.

I am sure KIA Pakistan got some sort of tax break to launch this vehicle. Looking at the base variant which still lacks the safety feature like stability control and side air bags which are standard overseas, seems like KIA assembled some basic variant for our market to be specific. Because these safety features are standard everywhere.

I hope when KIA launch/ assemble the mass market vehicles in Pakistan in shape of a hatchback/ Picanto or small sedan or cross over like Sportage, it does not lack basic standard safety features which they offer everywhere else as standard.

Personally I dont see thousands of Kia Carnival on roads in near future. Carnival is targeted at a very specific use and very very specific customer base. With rising fuel costs and lower fuel economy because of the size of the vehicle and engine, we can not expect huge sales numbers. Add price of the vehicle to the equation keeping in mind the majority of our car buyers are from middle class and although an average family size might need a mini-van, its not an easy purchase or in other words NOT within budget of many car buyers.

Its also for public information that this version of Carnival is discontinued in international market as the Carnival got the face-lift recently with some interior and exterior updates.

KIA aim is to develop customer relationship/ trust and Carnival is the first trick. Lets all hope we see vehicles of public interest as soon as possible.
