At present I have second gen honda HR-V thai version that were imported as CBU by honda Pakistan starting 2016. This vehicle generally fulfils our routine usage but when my grownup kids are around than we have to hire a second car to travel out of city. Travelling separately isn't much fun. Therefore I was considering a 7 seater. The available options are kia sorento, hyundai santa fe, oshan X7, 580 pro. Santa fe is too expensive and other are Chinese but are feature rich. As regards parts, I think all of them have expensive parts and non are available in kabari bazar. I am the type who doesn't change cars very often. Mostly , I change cars after 5-8 years. I don't want to spend anything plus of Rs10M.

7 seats are always a plus.

The only viable options you have are Sorento or Oshan X7. Glory, Tiggo, and Santa Fe should be avoided imo.

Oshan right now seems to be selling quite well and you will often see it in northern areas families coming on trips thanks to the very large interior and 7 seats.

You can also get it brand new, the facelift 7 seater future sense that also comes with radar / adaptive cruise.

Sorento will be used and does not have adaptive cruise.

I would say visit a Changan showroom and test drive the Oshan X7. It’s quite powerful too thanks to its turbo boost and you will not find it sluggish.

If you are not a brand name fan and if you like Oshan in person go for it. Also read posts in the dedicated Oshan X7 thread.

Fresh off the press news from the inside:

The Sorento, to be launched around end May / early June, will be offered in 3 variants:

1.6L Turbo Hybrid FWD
3.5L V6 FWD
1.6L Turbo Hybrid AWD (flagship)

Globally, while the model comes in several engine configurations, I was hoping by some miracle that LMC would offer the 2.5L turbo (same as Sonata N-Line). Now that would have made for a hot ride!

In any case the 1.6 Turbo Hybrid will have formidable power figures - this is the same one that is offered in the Sportage L, the newly revealed Tucson and the now-starting-to-show-its-age Santa Fe.

Pricing is still under wraps - but anything above PKR 15-15.5 mil for the top variant will result in the same shit-show that ensued with the Sportage L.

Bonus info: they will introduce Volcanic Sand Brown - the global hero colour - with the Sorento.

base variant must not cros 1.25 crore or it will fail. We all know santafe is struggling. I belive these early D segments should be starting at 1.20.

Please forget haval HEV price range for a while and move on everyone.

Sorento can be a great car if priced right.

If too expensive then won’t sell much. At least get the non hybrid variant around 9.5-1cr range to kill sales of other 7 seaters like Oshan.

yes, sorento must come without a non hybrid varient. Santafe would have done that as well. I dont know why hyundai is only launching hybrids.../

They will launch a non-hybrid version - 3.5L engine. Will probably place it as the mid-variant.

The 2.5L NA engines Sorento comes with in international markets are too sluggish.

The 2.5 Turbo, however, would have been a very interesting proposition - same as the Sonata N-Line. But seems like the focus is on hybrids only among both Kia and Hyundai for PK.

Unfortunately the 3.5L will lead to bad fuel anverage and high registration/annual token taxes. Added with high initial cost, it will not gain market.

I hope they do NOT try to pitch it against or even close to Fortuner .. that’s not gonna end well just like the previous gen Sorento.

A fine vehicle getting a beating because of high initial cost + bad fuel averages. Changan X7 despite its huge size gives a decent fuel average and amazing power with just 1.5 turbo . Saving tons on annual token taxes.

Depends on the target market.

As with the previous gen, they'll only offer the 3.5L V6 in FWD; if it were AWD I would get it over any other version. Power matters to me, over fuel and reg. I'm sure there are similar people around.

But I'll go for the Hybrid AWD because that's the one they'll pitch as the flagship with the full bells and whistles. Not as much oomph as the V6, but plenty nonetheless, as I observed in the Santa Fe Hybrid and Sportage L test drives (same engine).

With Nline and BYD seal at 15 million, Sorento could be anything.

Although Sorento still is a MPV and not a SUV

Santa Fe looks old, Sorento has somehow made its mark on the Pakistani buyers.

Specially in Punjab alot of people shifted to chauffeur driven Sorento and Carnivals over Toyota Fortuners.
