You can compare sorento with fortuner on price only. They are both diffetent cars altogether.
Fortuner is a hilux with a cabin on steroids
Sorento is a sportage on steroids.

One is a rugged vehicle while other is a bigger crossover.

Sorento is more comfortable fortuner is more versatile.

Excellent point.
No point in buying the 2.4 ones. Rather one should jump straight to the V6. No local PKDM atleast offers the power.
Still for me the prices are high.
Let’s see what Fortuner comes up with.

I agree. Looking at the CBU Carnival price, one can assume that indeed locally assembled Sorentos should cost bit less. I guess Fortuner unjustified prices have given more room to KIA.

What's the point of buying Sorento here?

DFSK Glory 580 Pro, another 7 seater, has even more features and costs way less.
Can be booked with 2-3 months delivery time.

Only 4.6 million rupees.
7 Seater
Spacious
Half the price.
Better features.
Great build quality

Engine Power Comparison
Torque:
580 Pro: 220Nm @ 4000 rpm
Sorento 2.4: 225Nm @ 4000 rpm

Close in even engine power.

580 Pro > Sorento.

Unless you really want V6 in FWD crossover, only then engine power is better in Sorento.

Carnival takes advantage of the '11 seater' status in duties. So the CBU costs less, same van without this advantage would be priced much higher.

diesel torque wont be as quick as petrol engine, 2ndly the weight of Sorento is 1800kg and fortuner is 2050kg.

Yes, but that as advatange is avaibale to buyer and they can buy a Carnival at a reduced cost as KIA imports it under commerical scheme.

The new carnival would be miles ahead in road dynamics comparing this Sorento. Keep in mind Sorento and Carnival both are people movers and Sorento is no way an off road champion.

No argument with that. The new Carnival CBU they sell is a better offering than the Sorento, since I agree that Sorento does look more like a van than an SUV.
There is a generational difference between the two and I'm not very sure, but it certainly looks to be a leap rather than a hop between the two gens. The Carnival certainly deserves a strong consideration from Sorento V6 potential buyers.

I have decided to get myself a 2.4L AWD Sorento in mercury blue tomorrow I have seen the blue in person and it looks fantastic

Toyota has updated the 1GD to produce 201hp and 500nm torque. I am not sure if the engine update is coming to Pakistan in addition to cosmetic updates in the recent facelift. But if it does, it should be a good change, and I believe it will take care of the underpowered complaints many people have with Fortuner.

Overall, Fortuner is the proper offroader with a body-on-chassis design derived from Hilux. But for general use, Sorento offers better value for money, especially the 2.4 base variant, and the 3.5 will have ample powers for fun on the road.

Toyota can choose to introduce the 4.0L V6 Fortuner, but they are gradually pulling this engine from markets (e.g. 4.0 is no longer available in Hilux and Fortuner in Australia). But the powerful 1GD and proper 4WD make Fortuner the better off-road vehicle. But value of money is on Sorento's side at current prices and features, and I feel it might force Toyota to update their line-up in another facelift. I think 2.4 AWD or 3.5 FWD will prove to be good buys for most people.
