I personally find more Stonics on the road now, and I believe the main differentiating factor could be the build quality of the car. Unfortunately, yes, very few people in Pakistan admire build quality over fuel average (as seen in the case of the Alto), but I think KIA is aiming for a more specific segment and I respect that.
I also find the range of movement in the front seats, especially the back and forth adjustment, to be way more than what you get in a Corolla Grande. That might be why there’s less leg space in the back, which is an issue, but honestly not a big deal for the average Pakistani height.
The trunk could play a role when comparing it to sedans like the City, which gives you around 500 liters versus the Stonic’s 300-ish. But if someone doesn’t need that much trunk space, the Stonic does the job just fine.
The only thing I’d personally change is the transmission. I feel like a CVT or even a DCT would’ve worked better, especially for fuel average in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It already gives great average on open roads and long drives, and even if you’re in the mood to drive a little fast and furious, it performs well. The drive is honestly beautiful if you treat it right.
The EX variant, in my opinion, is a really good buy. It balances features and build quality well, and the kind of premium feel you get inside a Stonic, I don’t think you’ll find that in a 1.3 Yaris, 1.2 City, or Swift. Maybe Alsvin comes close, but for me, not quite.
I’ve also had good experiences with KIA staff at two different showrooms, in Islamabad and Lahore. Can’t say the same about Suzuki dealerships from what I’ve seen.
There’s also this idea floating around that Stonic parts are more expensive. Personally, I find that hard to believe, because almost all car parts are expensive now. Yes, you’re limited to KIA dealerships, but for people living in bigger cities, that’s not really a problem. It’s just not the most practical option for rural areas.
I think KIA reintroducing the EX shows there’s still consumer interest, and they’ve clearly done their research. Sure, trust in KIA has been a bit shaky due to sudden price drops and shortages, but I still think it’s a really good car for the right kind of buyer.
This is my personal opinion, I'm sure there might be disagreements but all love!
