Crossed Thakot city and famous suspension bridge over the river and stopped at a small restaurant for breakfast and prayer.

Did not stop at Besham because it is not the Besham my eyes were searching. There used to be a small bazar but now it is relativelly big. After Besham, trees started giving way to bushes and finally you have to search for green patches on the mountains of Kohistan. I stopped at a truck hotel after crossing Dassu. After having lunch I continued my journey to Chilas for night stay.

During the next 3 to 4 hours, I can just see baren mountains, Indus and sometimes trucks

Before this point, a policewala waved and informed me that tyre pressure is low in my back tyre. As I stopped, tyre drained quickly. I was surprised as this does not happen usually with a radial tyre. Anyhow, that policeman was kind enough to replace the tyre. I continued my journey while searching for a puncture shop. At last I found a tyre shop in the middle of no where. There was a big hole on the WALL of tyre that is why it exhausted a radial tyre instantly. I asked him for a "pukka" puncture and he said yes but rim of tyre was raped brutually but there was no other option. With no confidence in the quality of puncture work, I continued with stuppny on.

While I was having the tyre fixed, I was also thinking about the presence of this tyre shop in the middle of no where. I got the answer instantly when I resumed the journey after tyre fix. Actually this was the area where "lukar chor" dump and then load wood on trucks. You will see this sight several times on KKH and this is the reason for change of climate and flooding. In fact our next generation will not see the beauty that we have enjoyed.

As indicated in the beginning, public transport now run in caravans on KKH. This was the the first caravan that I saw headed by a bus accelerating wildly towards Besham.

Lovely.. done the same in July 2012 with family .. travel on KKH has its own charm and if the road is repaired it trip of life time. Must say your writing skills are pretty good.. please continue love reading it

An hour or so before Chilas, valley widens and you will see stretches of straight road where car and driver get some relief by shifting to 4th gear and may be 5th.

At 5:15pm i.e after more than 19 hours on the road, I was close to Chilas

While searching for hotel, I turned towards left for Chilas city but relaized that I was wrong. Hotels are on the KKH and I should have driven straight. Turned back and settled at this hotel. Owner was asking for Rs. 1000. He claimed that attached bathroom has commode as well as indian flush. I instantly said "ok I will give you Rs. 1100 because tonight I will use commode and in the morning flush..... thx for added facility" Lolllllll!
