Trains traveling is always fun, Iwould like to make a suggestion to them they can add a car carrier aswell, people such as me and my family would love this facility, take our car along and from lahore go all the way to northern areas that would be lovely

that is an excellent idea. but the question which will arise here is that how much are they going to charge you for that. if you include you and your cars ticket or if you include car freight fare + family ticket that will be very very expensive :-#

i have 'heard' that cars can be transported to lahore via the car carriers and they charge you around 8,000-10,000 PKR. i am not sure about the prices but obviously taking your car by train would be the best idea, given that the car reaches there safely.

Nice thread. I liked your approach of explaining everything in details with yours opinion. Indeed a good attempt by the PR. Still in terms of money, its quite expensive. If you want to travel with your family of 6 persons. 60k is too much for a return trip. What if you have a family of four persons, you would not feel comfortable in the presence of 2 strangers for 18 hours. PR should introduce some innovative way of carriages to facilitate families and individual passengers.

In my opinion fare is reasonable, consider it 3500 without meal and 42000 for return of 6 person, if you compare it with car which I guess would be around 35000 return fuel and a night stay in middle and it is for four person so 42000 is the right fare. Secondly by train we will save our driving tension and can enjoy the trip, on top of that the security issue on self drive is too much of concern specially travelling with family.

yes brother you are right about the damage.. the road and the loading and un-loading will definitely cause damage to the car which will cost a lot.. the best will be by train.. even by ships i think the car gets damaged... orrr if you are really desperate then we can use DHL or FedEx lol

very nice point raised by you about the number of family members. for this i would suggest that the management shall build cabins especially for people with a family number of 4. so 4 and 6 would be a great cabin size because i think the average family is of this size. obviously it can be planned and researched by the company before going for any changes in the design or the build.

very correct brother.. but we shall keep in mind the transportation costs in lahore or karachi if we don't know anyone here because renting a car or using rickshaw or taxi will be quite expensive. but still i will suggest travelling by train is much better and relaxing...

That was a very enjoyable trip being a first of a kind journey for the family even though we booked seats in the parlour car. The down side of a rail journey is that when you get to your destination you are not mobile unless you make arrangements of either renting a car there or having it transported by truck. It all depends on the budget. If trains are maintained and you get your money's worth then why not more and more people will benefit.

you are correct that about having a car at the destination because if you don't have a car or any sort of transportation arrangement then it gets very difficult especially with family. so the best thing would be to drive the car, transport the car or rent a car at the destination whichever is suitable.

the train leaving from kotri junction station... the gates of the train remained closed and we were left to enjoy these things from inside the train. there is a lot in our country to see.. the life in villages and these stations if completely different. looking at it makes you feel as if you are really in it... all of these things are missed when travelled by air... i wish i had gone to lahore by train too...

west cabin of Kotri Junction... before we saw the East cabin and this is the West cabin where the signal to the train is given. there were many of these cabins through out the journey... and the people were carrying green lanterns and at some crossings the signalling was done by using a led torch

thank you for the appreciation... yes brother anything which is done properly will always result in a positive result... but it needs to be planned and very well organised..
i think there are few flaws which PR needs to rid off.. once those are gone PR will shine, because we shouldn't forget that Trains can generate very high revenues for the country if operated efficiently and effectively. a lot to say and do but we can only pray for our country and its services

after passing kotri junction came this river.. i don't know the name of it but it was a very nice view and a thing which is missed by people who travel by air. we don't get to see such things outside Pakistan...

the train crossed the river through the railway track. very strongly built bridge i must say and also the date of construction is not known.. but i believe that it might be old...

a fully loaded truck. it was very far so sorry for the blurry picture... this trucked is used for transporting various types of goods and feed for the animals... these trucks are very much relied here in Pakistan and their bodies are fully customised/decorated in a traditional way... and also these trucks are very popular, sometimes the small model of these are sold overseas

as it was morning time and the sunlight was coming directly in the cabin all of us woke up apart from this gentleman who was still snoring we all were starving because it was around 7:30am and we were told that we will get our breakfast by 8:00am

at sharp 8:00am we were served our breakfasts which was warm... the breakfast consisted of:
1.two bread slices
2. omelette
3. strawberry jam
4. nurpur butter
5. 1 paratha per person
6. potato curry (alu ki bhujiya [not sure])

i think the idea of paratha is a very nice one because paratha can be used to eat the potato curry and then omelette can be eaten with the bread slices..
i made an omelette sandwich by spreading butter on to the breads and putting omelette in it. enjoyed it.. nice taste
