The manual states 5w-30 or 10W-30 for 2ZR-FE 1.8 but according to toyota dealership for first 20,000km you should use Taglon which is 5W-50 and then after 20,000km shift to petron plus which is 10W-30. I found it quite strange and did not go with their recommendation and decided to pour 5W-30 japenese tin packing.

They are always fooling you to mint more money, they told me to use Toyota 20w50 for my toyota revo but since i changed it to 15w40 i felt better response with better fuel average which can last 5000km but Toyota oil only lasted 2500km.

Yes exactly. I spent literally more than an hour in trying to explain to the relevant manager of that dealership that what you are suggesting is wrong and majority of the customers do not have knowledge about oils.

I tried to explain to him in simple terms that when the user manual is suggesting 5W-30 or 10W-30 then how can you guys suggest something else and that too 5W-50. 50 grade is literally harmful to new engines.

Its all about what they want to sell instead of what they should sell. Its sad that we have to live in a community like this where financial gain is preferred over best service

For new engine never use thicker oils. Infact for the first oil change you can also opt for mineral, but only for the first oil change, it helps shape up your pistons by giving more friction between the cylinder and piston

yes m using a lot thinner oil than Toyota oil, they are using 20w50 for Toyota Revo, 2ndly the best engine oil for 1KD is 15w40 mineral oil for our dusty evironment with bad sulphur diesel. My bro in law got new fortuner sigma4 1GD diesel and he got the oil changed by getting mobil1 delvac 5w40 fully synthetic as Toyota dealer was using 20w50 mineral.

I told my choice according to my experience, experimentations and lab testing.
It’s totally upto you what you do with your car.

I read a thread about oils for grande and you were literally humiliating people who used 50 (mota tail) hahaha. Zulfikar bhai also suggested to go with max 30 for later figure in your sae grade for oil.

Grande has cvt and hardly ever crosses 2 rpm within city and i personally believe that 5w50 is for a revved up engine.

My car is 130000kms driven at the moment. I am still using 5w50 Mobil 1 with drain intervals of 10000kms. Everybody have options to choose I am not restricting anybody here. My car gives 14km/l at 120km/h on 5w30 and same car gives 16-17km/l at 120km/h on mobil 1 5w50. I feel zero difference in terms of acceleration. Engine sounds way less on 5w50.
Can you explain that according to your opinions. I sticked with recommendations of IMC Toyota. I am using 0w20 in the civic turbo as it is recommended by Honda Atlas.

For 2000kms it was a fine oil, never used anything like it. After 2000kms damnnnn what's that noise at cold start. Kept using till 10k kms. Changed oil and same thing repeated after 2000kms cold starts were crap.
Switched onto Mobil 1 and chill life.
I can send you audio clips for cold start of Mobil 1 5w50 and amsoil 5w30 too.

Sir I tried total 5w30 too due to hype. Same fuel economy on it too. My friends faced same thing.
Fuel economy figures taken by brim to brim top up and 600kms journey on motorway. I do not travel at all with messed up wheel alignment/balance or tyre pressure.

Yes dual vvti rattles badly on these oils.
Toyota taglon
Amsoil 5w30 signature series
Shell helix ultra 5w40. This oil was so bad that I had to drain at 1500kms. Engine started giving whistling sound at high rpms.

No rattling issues at all on

Liqui moly 5w40 synthoil hightech
Mobil 1 0w40
Mobil 1 5w50

As far ceratec is concerned it literally perform its job. I use it at every 50000kms.

I am using 5 50 mobil 1 as well.
Recently switched to liquimoly molygen 5 30.
Don't feel a difference. The average is about the same.
I have a 15 grande 120k on odo.
