this is how I want the bike to look. This is the standard gs500 in recent years. Dark silver engine, black frame, black handle bars, black tank and tail.

the tail on my bike is from older model, but I like this one better, I will see if I can find this one

Its a long story, I will share details and pics with time. Actually I bumped into Naeem bhai with total luck and chance. he is a good friend of my cousins. He is restoring bikes for quite some time now. He has round 20 to 30 bikes waiting for restoration. he also had three gs500's as well. I will be getting one of those gs500's. All three of them are from police auction, and are '95 to 99 model.

Other than these, he had an r6, gsxr-600, rgv, several trails and a few quads. I will take some pics when I visit him next time. and share them here

yes, that's right. Lets see if I can find those parts here easily and they don't require any significant mods, otherwise I will stick with the originals. because I don't want to mess too much with the bike

AoA everyone. I'm trying to post on PW for a while and am also trying to PM members but I don't know why it is not working. Anyways, let's see if posting on an existing thread works.

@gorkan i was wondering how your experience has been with the GS500. How much time and energy did it require from you to get it restored and how often do you end up visiting the mechanic for its maintenance.

I am highly interested in getting a naked bike somewhere in the 200k range. Would you recommend a restored bike to someone like me who is quite non-technical and probably would not have too much time for Bilal gunj-surfing?

A GS500 could be restored from scrap to perfection in Rs.200k some two years ago, but today you will need much more budget if you want the restoration work from a renowned mechanic. There are many mechanics who can do the restoration work for you in much cheaper price but the quality will be low and soon you'll be spending even more to keep the bike running. Either find a good bike, or get one restored yourself or keep riding whatever you own right now. BTW getting a bike restored is a hell of a task, time taking and can be frustrating if you need new parts.

Thank you so much for the advice, @7thgear. Can I please trouble you with a couple more questions?

First of all, if I am able to find a pre-restored bike, or a bike that is already in a decent condition, will its maintenance be quite time/energy consuming as well?

Secondly, do you think I can save money by going for a different bike (such as CD 200) or will everything in a good condition cost more than 200k?

^ You can find a CD200 in your budget, look for something decent around.
Not many pre-restored GS500 are left, if any. Bikes in good condition came out in the last auction where they had 2001 and above models in limited numbers, hard to find though, and from older models nothing but junk is left. Try to find a bike in running condition and depending upon your budget you can think about its engine overhaul, electricals or paint job, if required.
My last restoration project of GS500 took five months to complete, that sure is time consuming:

So from your feedback, it seems like GS500 is not the easiest to find/maintain bike anymore?

As per your advice, I'll start looking for a CD 200. Are there any other bikes that I should consider? Obviously I'm looking for bikes that are easy to maintain.

GS500 is easy to maintain but proper restoration takes some time, not just for GS500 but thats true for a CD200 as well. Once a bike is restored to perfection then it does not need much maintenance, just change the oil and filter in time, get the carbs cleaned when needed and the bike will not give you much problem. I am keeping my blue GS for almost three years now and it has never given me any single problem that you can think of..
