Hope you are doing well.

I bought a Honda City 2018 1.3 MT in August 2023. ODO meter reading was 63k (Not sure if it was correct). I immediately took it for oil change and got Castrol 10w40 poured into it as the mechanic suggested to use it because the previous oil used was not known. After 4500 kms I again replaced with the same oil. Now the time has come for the third oil change, I did some research and found out that 5w30/40 is the most suitable oil.

1. Can I use 5w30 after using 10w40?
2. Some people say that switching to a lower grade oil from higher grade oil can cause engine issues
3. On highway at the speed of 140 Km/h the RPM is at about 4200. May be it could help get an idea about engine health.
4. If not 5w30, which would be the most appropriate grade?

5W-30 is the correct grade for old Honda City. The max you can go is 10W-30.

yes you can use it. keep checking the oil level after regular intervals and if there is no reduction then keep using 5 w30.

0w20 or 5w30 is recommended as per owner's manual. If the car is well maintained as in the oil is changed on time and the car is not abused than 0w20 is fine. Synthetic blend is preferred for these engines.

If I base my decision on the data sheet, there isn't too much of a difference. I am more concerned about the quality of the blends and real life performance in Pakistan.

The main issue with that guard oil is its additive package , check its TBN and SA content, there base oil is good tho. Even the cheap Havoline 10w40 has better TBN and SA content.

Hello Everyone,

I want to ask, Can I use 5W30 or a more Prominent Grade Engine Oil Instead of 20W50.? I have a Suzuki Alto Eco-S 2012, and my previous owner was using 20W50 grade Engine Oil (Don't know since when).

If I want to shift towards 5W30 Grade, what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing so.? My Car's Engine is in perfect condition and doesn't have any issues so far (burning oil etc). I know it's an older model now, but still, I want an expert opinion.

Apart from that, my Car's Transmission has a P0741 Code and a Check Light, I don't know if changing the Engine Oil Grade will impact it in a more negative way or not. But this is the overall scenario, expert suggestions will be highly appreciated.
