Till it starts burning oil then you switch to something like 5w30. There is no such thing as "recommended mileage" for a grade oil.

Use a good quality air filter, correct oil grade, good oil filter, change oil at correct interval, use coolant not water and you shouldn't have any issues.

If you properly use and maintain your vehicle, you may never need to switch to thicker grade.
I used to own Wagon R 2015 model which I owned for 7 years and driven for more than 80,000 km. I was using 0w-20 till that last day of ownership and it was running perfectly. I did multiple trips between Islamabad-Karachi on it. The engine never reduced any oil.

Hi,

I own a 2018 Civic and currently, I am using Total 5w30 SP engine oil I am fairly happy with it as Honda was offering SN grade engine oil up until now. Recently Honda also started to provide their 5w30 engine oil with SP grade and now I am at a crossroads. I am aware that Honda used to procure their engine oil from Total and now they are getting it from Idmitsu Lube but I am not aware whether they obtain the base oil only and include additives by themselves or they acquire it with the additives and simply do the packing.

Appreciate your insight into this matter as this will clear things up for me in deciding which way I should move.

Please suggest best oil and oil grade for civic 2018? My car is 60k driven. (for Karachi)
I bought it recently. I am not sure which oil grade is used by previous owner.
On mechanic recommendation I put Honda 10-40
Does oil grade effects fuel average? If yes how much does it effects?

Which engine oil is better for new honda car when compared with Amsoil 0w20 signature series 100% synthetic vs Honda atlas 0w20. Any user experience? If you had used amsoil before and had any problem please guide me about it. Thanks!

I have just bought a Honda City 1.2 auto, Its mileage is 10k right now, previous Owner changed the Oil from Filter House at 4k mileage and used something called Mutul 5w40, but honda recommends 0w20 less than 15k mileage, Should I change it to 0w20 or 5w30 now ?

Low mileage so 0w20 is what you should use.

New engine so piston rings are fresh. It won't make a difference.

To be honest for new city 5w30 should be good enough, 0w20 is not necessary considering our climate in pakistan and since the city is NOT a turbo engine.
If car is running well on 5w40 then you can either stay on 5w40 or go to 5w30 fully synth as it is Honda recommended.

Btw anyone has any experience with PSO Carient Oils, in particular PSO Carient Ultra 10w-30 which is a semi synthetic oil. I am thinking of switching using Honda 10w30 SM to PSO Carient 10w30 SN. as the price is almost the same.
Just asking because i've heard some say bad things about PSO oils whereas some say it works perfectly fine.

Use 0w20 or 5w30 throughout engine life. Fully synthetic.

Best oils for modern engines.

Don’t go any higher or thicker grades.

0w20 is better for even more fuel average.

5w30 can be used if it’s significantly cheaper than the 0w20 box.

Yes, youre right but generally for normal cars like city with 1.2l engine 5w30 does a great job even 10w30 is perfectlyl fine. Usually 0w20 is used for either turbo cars or in very cold climates or where the owners manual specifies that exactly to use 0w oil.

Who said that? That is old 1990s logic.

Most cars worldwide are using 0w20 since 10 years or more.

Just pour in and forget it. Most engine wear occurs at car startup and 0w flows the best at startup n low temps reducing engine wear.

Anyway, no need to go for odd oils like 10wX, absolutely no need.

Stick to standards like 0w20 or 5w30 for best availability of lubes and prices.

Use Honda genuine engine oil API-SP 0W20

0w20 in my city 1.5 aspire and it comes out good during oil changes and i live in Karachi. These engines are designed for low viscosity oils and not to mention newer synthetic oils resist thermal breakdown and evaporation better than mineral oils or older rating oils.
