I recently bought a used BRV with 40000 kms on it. The previous owner told me he used 10w40 oil. I want to shift to 0w20 but afraid it might start issues with oil consumption. Need advice if and how to switch to 0w20.

Honda BRV is Made in Pakistan by ATLAS HONDA you may please check the user manual for engine oil spec recommendations.

The manual does recommend 0w20. I did read it. My question is regarding the previous owner's use of 10w40 and its effects on the engine and whether switching to the correct viscosity after 40000kms might have any negative effects? Also when I change to 0w20, is there a reduced change interval for the initial few oil changes or not. Any other do's or donts.

Sadly the owners manual does not have a chapter titled dumb previous owner, or for that matter a dumb current owner

You can use recommended oil grade for the life of your vehicle. The idea of using thick oil for high mileage engine is obsolete.
You can keep an eye on the oil if you are concerned about the oil reduction. Instead of moving to thicker grade, try to find the root cause of oil reduction. Using thick oil cause more harm than using recommended oil grade, and keep topping up when required.

Recently i gor my honda city 1.3 MT 2015 engine oil changed from 5w30 to 10w40 upon total oil change guy's recommendation.... My car has done 95,000 kms so he told me to uae 10w40...i got it filled but now i feel my car performance little low. It feels heavy while driving and affecting fuel average as well. Should i go back to 5w30. It was fine with good acceleration and mileage on 5w30.... Experts please give your suggeations

Switch back to 5w30 on next oil change.Don,t listen to these oil change places.

if 5w30 was fine then you should stick to 5w30. on next oil change switch back to 5w30

On last oil change i shifted from 10w40 (used by previous owner) to 5w30 (also one of the recommended grades in owners manual) on my brv. The honda technician told me to reduce the oil change interval to 1000kms for next two oil changes (probably to flush remnants of old oil in his opinion). Does this make sense or should I change next oil at 5000kms interval.

Salam everyone, i recently bought a used civic 1999 manual transmission, got the oil changed, came out black but not sludgy, just very dark, added some helix hx3 20w50 and about a week later im seeing black droplets on the end of my dipstick, the oil above the first hole is clear gold, the oil at the tip is black and thick, is this leftover oil from the previous oil? will it clear out if i change the oil a few times? any advice from Xulfiqar bhai is appreciated, i sincerely hope i dont need an engine rebuild or something since there is no smoke coming out the exhaust of any color.
