Aoa. U may b surprised with my presence in this forum bc of my profession. I am Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon. Keeping a soft top jeep is an old wish of mine which hasnt fullfilled yet. And my favourite jeep is ofcourse.... MUTT.
I ve read every post of this forum and ve learnt a lot. Most of the members' passion 4 this machine is incredible. I want some sincere advice 4m the members esp the veterans. Actually, I cant afford going 2 mechanics time and again plus I won't b driving jeep very frequently bc of my professional demands.
* Should i try 2 find a trouble free restored MUTT? Or should I go 4 restoration 4m zero? Frankly, I don't want 2 spend much time and money.
* Ppl say more the alterations, more will be the troubles so 1 shld go 4 least alterations even engine shld b original. Wat do u suggest?
* How difficult is the maintenance? Ppl say that old jeeps r 'niri bemari'. Ur talks on diff, carborator etc have frightened me. Wat ab availability of routine maintenance items eg filters, brakes etc?
* Is there any good jeep mechanic in Islamabad? Can an ordinary mechanic settle routine issues of MUTT?
* Wat is permit of army auctioned jeeps? I ve heard that its must 4 registration.

Doc, Welcome.

As for your questions;
Keeping in view your profession and time at hand It would be better if you went for a restored Mutt, rather than trying to restore of yourself.
If you have the knack of mechanics then you can do most of the stuff yourself, else it'll be a visit to the doc for every flu the MUTT has

The types of alterations depends, but if a MUTT has been converted to diesel and it has been done nicely then it should not give you any troubles other than a dead battery if not used frequently.

Parts are an issue if you go for the original condition, though brakes and filters etc are not an issue.

Every auctioned vehicle has an auction invoice with it, make sure you have that along with other papers from the auction site for registration purposes.

I was literally expecting reply 4m u but obviously not so quick. Thanx a lot 4 addressing all the queries. U ve been great help 4 every1. I ve visited the MOC link 2. Its v nice. Yup, I m v much into mechanics but into human esp bone mechanics =) Know nothing ab jeeps.
Actually a v close friend of mine owns a very high tech auto workshop and is doing major alterations and NOS like stuff prob 1st time in Isloo. He has offered me 2 restore a MUTT 4m scratch or even improve a restored MUTT. I m sort of double minded bc basically jeeps is not his specialty. Biggest advantage is close proximity of this workshop 2 my place. Lets c. I ll bother u again in case of any help.

Where did u buy this auction jeep 4m? Rawalpindi? Did u buy it directly 4m Army auction or u r the 2nd buyer? I ve heard that whole lots r auctioned by Army. If u don't mind, can u pl tell price range of these auctioned jeeps?

i have been a jeep user since 1998 i own m38 willys i just sold it last month and got mutts
am in lahore and i got it from the cod lahore via auction on 21july 2010 and both the m151 are under my name with the auction letter and oyher documents in my name if you like i will give u one

Thanks 4 the offer. Dear as u can assess that i dont even know abc of jeeps i cant commit at the moment. Plus i wont b able 2 travel 2 Lahore in near future bc of some illness. I am on rest nowadays and that is the reason of getting time 4 internet and these posts But i ll do consider.
