Good to know that you came to like the world's best jeep ever made.

As for the price, it all depends on how you want it, what kind of piece you pick up and what you want to have eventually. If you are deciding to go for an engine swap, then it really doesn't matter how the vehicle is mechanically. You can put in any engine in it (minus a turbo) and it'll run on the same gearbox. The price can start from 80,000 going all the way up to 350,000. Naturally the higher the price, the lessor the effort afterwards, but my advise is that one should always know what has been put in, how & where.

So if you have time and money, you can pick up a piece for 100,000 convert that yourself to any engine and end up with a desired product that you know off within 250,000.

Mind you that original pieces are unreliable, anything can breakdown at anytime and part availability is HIGHLY RARE.

@mohsin's. Sorry for the late reply. As for your differential making noise at times.. Are you sure its the diff? It seems that its low on oil. Have you checked that? If not, then I suggest you have the old one drained and then refill it. The best way to do that is to drive around for 30 mins and drain when the oil is hot. This should be your 1st test, see after that if it still makes noise. If you have already done the above then I'm afraid either a notch has given way or is about to. Differentials can be fixed if the notches are intact. Its a tedious task and you need to get hold of someone will to do so. MUTTs relied and have survived this long only due to proper maintenance, I guess that goes for all machinery. Keep it well lubed and have regular checks. Send me an email if you need further assistance or if this works out.

I have a background of working on compressors , turbines and gearboxes of petrochemical industry. I am not very well versed with automobile hardware , though a recent proud owner of a MUTT. My experience tells me that when backlash between gears is beyond a certain limit they become noisy. Thats why adding thicker oil or graphit powder, teflon paste or mashed potatatoes in your diffrential oil reduces this noise as this new more viscous fluid fills in the increased clearance which regular oil film is finding difficullt to fillup.

The right way of reducing increased backlash is to add a shim behind the thrust bearing and check the gear contact with purrsian blue so that it is atleast 80% and the back lash is still sufficient to allow for formation of oil film to keep it lubricated.

Backlash can be checked by fixing one gear and installing dial indicator on the other and giving movement by hand......lot ofnical mumboo jumbooo.

My problem is that i have located a diffrential siliencing kit on e-bay. can anybody tell me what to expect and what price should i quote for it.

Sher, my advise goes to people after judging and knowing what and how they want it to be. You were lucky to get a good piece, there are not many out there, but the shear love of the machine wants people to ride it .............. I just want to ensure they achieve that....no matter how.

@hak007, can you give details about how much powder, paste or potato:) to add to a noisy diff and what and how long does it serve the purpose for ?

Moreso, where would one get the gaphite powder or teflon paste ?

Aslamoalikum wr wb everyone. I really want some serious advice from experienced jeep owners as I know very little about jeeps. I live in multan and here at a showroom there is an unregistered army jeep for sale, its M 151,'mutt'. The man is demanding 2 lac for it. Its left hand drive,and 1800 cc old petrol engine,. So please advice that is it a good jeep? and should i buy it?can it be easily customized??

The particular thing that you have seen is a rare commodity, not customizable
easily
and the engine capacity is not 1800 its 2370 to be exact, unless the guy has changed the power plant. Cannot comment on the price unless the object for sale can be viewed. They range from under 1 to 4

Shahmeer, what is it that you want to customize in this jeep ?
You see, the thing is that the parts availability of this is rare and next to impossible. if you want to convert it to a diesel then thats a totally different thing and you can read all about in the previous threads.

Keeping it in its original condition is going to be an uphill task, but that is the beauty of the whole thing.
