Maintaining UPS/car batteries

i am getting it only on generator on kesc its working fine. It means generator is unable to provide a constant power to ups right???
so any possible solution?

Could be any of the reasons, you need to have a multi meter and provide exact reading before I can tell you the solution.

How did you produce that distel water in your lab I would really want to know that as I was from long wanting to do it.

aoa on some ups there is a switch/button marked as high/low which mostly ppl set on high, what is that for?

also on some ups there is the button narrow/wide , what is that for?

I had contacted them 2 months ago and they said they hade discontinued making it but they may have started again. BTW from where you bought it or it was a free delivery and is it the same container used for chemicals. I can say that 620rs for 30 ltrs is dirt cheap because to make 30 ltr electrolyte one has to add 10 ltrs acid and that would weigh 18 kilos now if its available at 30rs per kg than its 540rs just for the acid leave 20 ltr distilled water. Well if one makes such mixtures at home it will easily cost him 1000rs+. Btw there electrolyte is good I used it in my battery last december and I am pretty satisfied

Sorry brother, It could be anything. I have no idea about the model and brand etc of the UPS you are talking about. Like it can control charging rate, it can be a setting to connect 12 Volt battery bank or 24 Volts battery bank or it can be anything. I would advise you to leave it onto the technician or consult a user manual.

It does seem dirt cheap, especially when you factor in the cost of home delivery and the price of the 30 kg container itself. But I guess since they probably produce tons of the stuff and thus it would cost them much less than retail prices.

I picked it up from their office in Model Town, since they said they would deliver it to my home the next day after it arrives from the factory. But I wanted it sooner, so I offered to pick it up from their office.

There is a battery seller. He is my father's friend. Can I ask him to take my old battery, flush it and refill it with proper acid and water mixture?. Its a 2 year old Exide 135Amp and its has degraded to pretty much half its capacity. Water is fine but there is that Grey buildup in it and most of the banks have their middle plates popping out but the battery is fine (strange). I can take a picture if you ask me to.

How much do you think will they charge for this?. Cant buy new batteries as budget is out, but I can do this if its possible.

Best is if you use distilled water but I can understand it would be difficult for you to acquire that. Flush the battery 4-5 times with tab water and then put it upside down for an hour. Then take it to him and ask him to refill the new electrolyte. It may help or may not depending upon if you battery has a dead cell or not. Off course you can always try that, please report the results once you have done so.

If you read the thread or follow at-least 3-4 pages, then you should have got your answers.

1. Anyway, I don?t expect anyone to clean or flush the battery using distilled water nor have I ever recommended that.
2. Only if you have it then distilled water should be used only for preparing new electrolyte and later for maintaining the proper level.
3. Take it out near a good drainage, spill the electrolyte and refill it with water using pipe, drain it and then do it at-least 4 to 5 times. Precaution: don?t spoil your car porch, do this exercise only if there is a suitable drainage and don?t spill the electrolyte on Road or do anything stupid and rest treat it with respect as it?s a diluted sulphuric acid after all.
4. Once donr then put the batteries inverted for an hour and later take it for refilling new electrolyte.

P.S: batteries should be in fully charged state once you will take it out for flush.

 WHY SHOULD ?LEAD ACID BATTERY? FULLY CHARGED BEFORE PERFOMING FLUSH

In Lead Acid Batteries, Positive terminal is made up of Lead dioxide whereas negative terminal is made up of soft spongy Lead. Electrolyte is a diluted solution of sulfuric Acid, so during discharging Lead combines with sulfate ions to produce lead sulfate which reduces the quantity of sulfuric Acid in battery. It?s difficult to restore a battery from discharged state (Lead sulfate-Negative Terminal) if left in discharged state for longer duration. Secondly, after flushing the battery, you will be putting new electrolyte in battery with certain xyz gravity. This gravity is bound to increase and disturb your calculations if battery was initially in discharged state. This action of buildup of Lead sulfate on Negative Terminal and then back into Lead is reversible on corresponding discharging and charging. Once battery will be fully charged then it will be expected that there is no sulfate buildup on it. But on discharged battery, once sulfate ions will go back to the electrolyte then it will increase the gravity of the electrolyte because of having more sulfuric acid in solution then what we expected. We don?t want this, once we will be re-filling the battery.

I just wanted to ask if I can store a battery after flushing for abt a month or not. Actually I m shifting 2 another city so my luggage will b packed 4 atleast a month. I dont want to keep the battery filled as it may leak during transportation.
So I want 2 ask if I empty it & then keep it 4 a month then fill it again. Is it ok?
My battery is fine btw

@talhawaleed: Sir i have a battery which i bought about 6 months ago,the plates are still new , now it was not giving a good backup, so as told by u i bought a hydrometer and checked the gravity...It was 11.00, so i fully charged the battery and performed a flush,refilled it with acid of 12.70 gravity..Still the battery has not increased its back up time, the shop wala's say "Isko hamsay charge karaaain,new ho jaye gi".. I m a bit confused that y didnt the back up time increase.. Also 1 thing i noted, the chemical i poured was of 12.70 but after i poured it into the battery and checked its gravity it has decreased to 12.40..
The UPS seems to be working fine as these days i have connected it to another battery,only for temporary purpose and its giving awesome backup and this temporary battery is 2yrs old with 12.50 gravity.. HElp me please,thanks

Is it necessary that after full charging of the batteries the gravity level should be 12.50, because when i checked the gravity level of my ups batteries after full charging it showed less thn 12.50, i also have external charger attached to the batteries but i dont knw how to set/check the charging of tht external charger, i have APC UPS. please guide.

You should be fine with 1240 or 1230 gravity but best is if you can maintain all of them around 1250-1275. If any of the cells is showing the variations then that is an indication that it maybe going bad.

I would discourage the use of external charger as your UPS its self is also a charger which can easily be tuned according to your requirement.
