all you techi guys, plz explain how do i use this to check my ups battery parameters.....which sign should i turn to get charging readings etc....can this be used as amp meter or voltmeter...plz explain as instructions are in chineese

For battery charging,u have to check DC amperes.better to buy DC ammeter(pannel meter typr),it will cost u almost 200-250. Plug it in series with battery wires.it will show u permsnently,the chargong amperes as well as load amperes ehen ups is on

This is little cheap quality, I bought it earlier but did not lasted more the 2 days and does not even have dc option. It?s a onetime investment and has a multitude of home/office applications. But this one

no get your alternator checked.

alternator? whats that supposed to be? and where is it supposed to be. my car is under warranty should i go get it checked and get the alternator replaced?

Only purpose a battery has on vehicle is that it helps in starting and then for rest of the driving time, it charges its self via alternator and second purpose is that it powers the other instruments once engine is off just like UPS works at home.

So if starting is ok then you have to cross check and diagnose if alternator which people commonly refer as generators is working fine or not and try to figure out a voltage drop once on the head lights are turned on. Automatic Voltage Regulator on Alternator might be little sluggish as it can drop the voltage and then regains it after few second which you may experience.

If that’s not the case then it may be aftermarket wirings or might be a possible short from somewhere.

You need to diagnose first in-order to be sure. At times a bad head light bulb can recreate same symptoms and drains far more power than expected.

1. Always Distilled water but I also said If you prepared the electrolyte yourself in start, then gravity at times is not exactly what you aimed for. If it?s less than 1250 then next time you can top up with 1300 gravity electrolyte in-order to balance out your earlier calculations. Once, adjusted then always pour distilled water no matter what happens.
2. No never shake the battery, but we do mix the electrolyte by wooden stick in plastic container before pouring in the battery in-order to avoid high gravity electrolyte from settling down at bottom. Don?t mess with the batteries once filled.

Whenever I check the electrolyte level in the batteries it's never accurate unless I shake the batteries a bit. When I do this I can hear bubbles/gas moving up/down and then I notice the electrolyte level decreases a little and gives a new reading.

Plz shed some light on why this happens and how to check the accurate level if not like this???

I've got a couple more questions for you bro:

1) Is it safe to unhook the UPS from it's original socket and plug it in a separate socket to charge the batteries directly without any load on the UPS??? Does this charge the batteries faster and is this a better way???

2) Have you any experience with National Batteries??? My dad prchased two National N130 batteries 3 months ago and they now start to shut down after 40 mins usage with 3 ceiling fans only. Does this have to do with the capacity of the batteries??? I've been keeping track of the electrolyte and keep it above LOW level at all times. However, one of the batteries was quite hot on touch today, is that due to slow charging as there's been a lot of load-shedding ( every hour so batteries not getting fully charged ) and I've been getting LOW Wapda voltage around 205-210, does that also effect the charging time???

i have a problem now a days....my batteries are losing water like hell. few days ago the batteries of the ups died.....i took them to batterywala. got ithe battries flushed 2 times with tap water and then the guy put electrolyte and charged the battery for 6 hours. i then took the batteries and attached them to ups......7 days latter one battery was almost dry and other one had electrolyte just above cells....is batteries at fault or the ups??? im having 8-10 hours of loadshedfing per day and wheb water is replaced battery gives 1-2 hours backup on 2 -3 fans and 2 lights

the batteries were shot...... sold old batteties for 4000.,,,bought ags 132 x 2 batteties..Now everything ok and even ups turns off when batteries are charged which it didnt in past 2 months...... that may be one of the the reason for my 35k electricity bill

Input line to UPS is isolated from output line. Input socket is what powers the UPS, output line receives it’s is power either from main Wapda via UPS or batteris via UPS. as long as these two lines are separate so it does not matter from where you provide the input.

1. If charging rate is slow and load shedding is frequent then try to increase the charging rate. Turning off the load, once it’s not load shedding won’t make any difference and would not slow or speed up the charging rate.
2. If you mean to say that charging rate is slow and load shedding is frequent then turning of the load or not using the output from UPS for one or two consecutive load shedding will help UPS charge the batteries fully.
3. Why don’t you just increase the charging rate as you know your issue? 8Amperes for N130 will e ok.
4. A lot depends upon quality of electrolyte and tuning of UPS. If UPS grade batteries are available then try to buy those. N130 definitely won’t you a good backup time due to limited capacity.

NS 245 .... 8 months, 2 bad cells, loose gravity and have to replace .... 2013

NS 245 .... 6 months used, 1 cell gone bad .... gravity came to 1100 and not gassing at all, have placed 1250 gravity acid in that cell by removing acid from that particular cell .... but of no use so far .... battery can't attain more then 13.80 and ups keeps on charging and making battery hot ..... and other cells start loosing electrolyte. .... now placed a desi ups and cut off it at 13.65 !

Over all experience .... Excide sucks big time from past 2 years .... in my friends circle and my personal experience ..... Pathetic !!!!

i have modified the main body of thread with wrong flush practices.

on the first point i thought same ( the magic of flush) but in the end there was no magic but a horror story, anyways i gave those batteries and brought new ones. bro now i need voltmeter, ampere meter form where to get these frm isb/rwp how much they cost?
and the second thing that how to use them,
and how to check whether the ups is charging at correct rate/amp ?

Yeah. I too have bad experience with these Exide batteries. Mine started making trouble after 7 months and died after 1 year. Switched to AGS and after one year still working like new one even though those are abused with extreme load shedding.

its not that Excide sucks, its the electrolyte and the UPS tuning.

you can buy it from college road. using Amp-meter and voltmeter is a fundamental concept which you will have to learn your self from internet.

Ans:electrolyte??? no, distilled water, you can buy it from source mentioned in main thread. i know, you must be thinking about increasing the C.G by adding electrolyte but thats adjusted once in life time and rest you need to cope up with issue by adjusting your charging device. like mine one charges the battery in three stages that is first 12 Amperes till voltage on terminal reaches 27 Volts, then 7 amperes till it reaches 27.6 Volts then goes down to 2 Amperes till it reaches 28.2 or 28 Volts. this way it ensures that battery properly charges its self and bring the C.G up.

2.battery is high on fluid and sg is low
ans:?? just adjust the charging device and level of the electrolyte should not be more then the maximum mark on battery, if yes then take the remaining out.

3.battery is normal on fluid and sg is below 1770. ans: pure sulfuric acid has a gravity of 1800 and you are talking about almost pure acid in battery and that will immediately kill the batteries and pure sulfuric acid is very dangerous.

4.irrespective of fluid sg is high
ans: put de-ionized or distilled water in battery. if C.G is higher then 1280 then remove some electrolyte from batteries and compensate it with de-ionized water.

Rain water is a big no.
Ac water is distilled but it contains physical impurities that reduces the life of batteries

Even though its not recommended but i use clean ac water and my battery is 1.5 years old now and no problems
