Manual vs Automatic transmission?

u can utilize any engines peak using manual tranny and can even abuse it..its not just about mustangs and all..even ecoboxes are much more fun driving using a manual shifter

Aap daily office timing mein routine Karachi ke traffic jam mein phans gaye aur 35-40 minute clutch daba kar bethna pare and it happens daily tu you would not mind selling your brand new M/T Xli / Gli for an old vitz or even Se saloon.

Auto best for city driving specially in karachi i m having auto car the first time since 2007 had no trouble Alhamdulillah although i have drive in heavy rain where water was touching the floor but car didnt stop once i have change the transy oil thats it and when i open oil chamber of gear oil was good as new even the filter clean had lil steel particle which was done first time after 115k km although i was having nio issue at all
so there is no maintenance cost of auto transy people have wring perception about transy

must have been the age factor..cant say much about that..but i dont have any problem pressing clutch for minutes when i go to raja bazaar and all that..and i drive an old beatup car whose clutch isnt close to what a new cars clutch feels like..

Brother all autos have the 3rd and 2nd gear option for traction and acceleration.

The new city and civic also had the 1st gear.

The Altis is coming with gate type triptronic shifter since 2005.

M/T will not make a corolla camry or a civic an Accord compare to the auto version there is hardly a second distance in real world.

On the other hand if a clutch goes old and starts slipping the difference always goes in favour of auto.

So in auto you cannot abuse your gearbox, you cannot stall a car and u can brake much better because u do not have to take your left foot off from clutch and then apply it on the the brake pedal which wastes considerable time.

Not to mention that your one hand is free in an A/T to do any emergency work or pick a call.

There is a reason why Toyota, Honda and Suzuki are commanding a 1.5 lac premium over their manual counterparts.

The terms "Vario" and "Prosmatec" were popular because of that in city have u ever heard of "Manual" or "6 speeder" ever.

Even the supercar makers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mclaren, Audi and Lexus are only offering their car with auto / semi auto.

Even the hybirds do not have manual.

i am not talking about which transmission powered car costs more..i am just saying that a proper manual with a CLUTCH is more fun to drive for ME..the Term Prosmatec is popular because it Sounded KOOOOl to some people..the ones who like Calling Their 8th gen civic as REBORN..and as far as hand free for picking up calls is concerned..one shouldnt be doing it anyways..dont know about Karachi but in islamabad people get fined for doing so..and its hazardous..but instead of paying extra lacs for making your left hand free..one could buy a nice bt handsfree for calls..and last but not the least..whatever gateshifters and all might they have..they stand against their manual brother/sister..and u cant deny that..

thats just because of the fact that humans response is way slower than a computer..so in these hyper cars such type transmission is used to compensate that lag and make them perform better..but the cars we are to live with dont have that much power anyways..still there are Cars being build with a proper manual..for example corvette zr1..srt viper..and they are not by any means slow

Brother your slow response thing is absolutely correct.

But Corvette and Viper are cheap muscle machines and offer performance of supercar around 50K $ or roughly half the maount of money half they can only afford M/T instead of an Audi DSG or Ferrari F1 transmission which would cost roughly 1/10 of the price of corvette / viper etc.

What do you think why all the hybirds and Kei cars or even C segment hot hatches like Vitz and Passo employ auto.

Just look at the sale trend of North America and Japan and you will clearly see the future of M/T.

Automatic:

You just want a relaxed drive... No worries, just cruise from point A to point B.... Let the on-board computer do the work for you...

Manual:

You want to be in control... Sometimes push it to the limit .....or start hyper-miling... YOU like to be in control...

In the end it all comes down to how you want to drive...

P.S: An enthusiast will prefer a manual ANYDAY... (Coming from an enthusiast stuck with an automatic.. )

why are u still going round and round around the sales trends and all that ? i m not arguing about that from the start.. and as far as corvette and the other one being cheap..i can live with that and am sure any person who buy a car for the amount of performance and not to showoff the amount of money he got , would have no problems with these cars just because they dont have that fancy type of transmission.. and hybrids and all that are built for fuel economy not performance..they are grocery getters..are for people who just want to go from point a to point b and not concerned with the fun..and not all..there is a manual version also available for them..and they are produced for people who like to drive..and btw have a look at honda mugen crz..its a hybrid but manual..

Auto transmission is very comfortable i have been driving both of the transmissions , u,ll always feel jerky while shifting the gears in mannual , it makes us very uncomfortable , more over if u want to feel power u can also drive the auto transmission like manually whenever u want by shifting it to L,2 or 3 so i guess auto is the best

I love manual cars, that's just probably since I am young atm. After my 40's probably get an Auto. just to relax.
This is the time to enjoy shifting

And I am an Hyper-miler, so manual suits me.

I would go for a manual anytime though i know manual has got few days...then it'll be history....but its Pakistan NAPAK Suzuki n indus will give us enough time then the rest of world.

Nope manuals are still popular in European countries. But yes their popularity is declining due to rise of more effective automatics and electric cars. They are being forced to make electric cars not gasoline cars. So in electric car no transmission is needed. So we can say goodbye to manuals and dcts.

What does Japan and North America has to do with manuals. In some countries manuals are more popular and in some countries auto culture prevails.

Yes cause most of the sells of Ferrari, lambo are from US. Why auto culture prevails. But does not means manuals are going anywhere. Gma t50 , Pagani, porche and Hennessey also use manual transmission which are multi million dollar cars
