you shouldnt get tears in your eyes. we've run,researched and understood rotary motors far longer than you've owned your car. There is zero rotary support in Pakistan and after working on the rotary with my bare hands, studying for months and months i had enough. Pakistan mein rotary can only be run stock. The power we're making on our 'toyota engines' are far more than you could dream of making IN pakistan on a rotary. Trust me im a way way bigger rotary fan than you are but theres some ground realities you need to accept. Rotary pakistan mein sirf stock chal saktee hai.

and why did you swapped your engine , did it blew up , and if it did blew up then why ?

the reason why i said u can only run it stock is that to tune an rx7 u need a power fc. nobody in pakistan is willing to spend money on one since it costs around $1090 without tax,shipping and customs. I think apart from myself i only know of aman and samad who bothered spending money on one. uss kay baad jahaan tuning kee baat aatee hai its very very easy to detonate while tuning a rotary. meaning tune karna bohat difficult hai and most tuners wont bother risking it cuz in the end blame will go to them. and without the right kind of tune u just cannot go around raising boost on a rotary.

And i swapped my engine because I got tired of working on my car all by myself. I got tired of trying to afford making more power on a rotary. Now by tapping a button three times and one press I get 85whp more then what i get when im driving it normally. ive got it as a daily driver. no workshop visits no nothing its like driving a normal car. no worries about heating up or blowing an apex seal. no worries about the coolant seals. no worries abt the corner seals. no thinking about how im gonna save up and buy 3mm seals. no worries about getting an aluminum AST. no need to get a V-spec intercooler. no waking up every other week in winters trying to unflood the motor. no painstaking 3hr plug changing. no waiting months for the plugs to arrive from abroad!! no more lack of torque honestly fahad i could go on and on and on and on and where ill stop samad(another rx7 owner) will go on and on and on. the benefits are endless. the power is unimaginable.

well its all about personl perference , i do agree that you have gone through all this trouble in terms of rotary , but my friend Ahad if you tune a rotary properly it will not give you any problems , yes a apexi power fc is important for tunning a any car , but thats were it does not stop, you need dyno and other special softwares to get it tunned , which i agree are not availible in Pakistan , the only dyno i can recall is in islamabad ,

and as far as flooding of the engine is concerend that my friend happens if you do not properly heat the engine at optimal level and imditly shut the engine is off , that is an issue with the rotary

ok , i did not got what you said , correct me i am wrong , as far as i could undersatnd , you installed 3mm apex seals and those seals blew up ?
that should not happen , it will will only happen if the boost is too much , or the oil lub is not right

and about the spark plugs Ahad you can easilly get the lead and trail spark plugs from here , the only things i had to order were the airfilter , fuel filter and brake pads ,

Its not about personal preference its about what you can get. We can't use HKS F-Con or Haltec. Im 100% certain nobody can operate wolf 3d, motec or megasquirt around here so you're only left with the pfc. I'm talking about the things you simply cannot tune your car without. you can tune your car without a dyno you cant without a pfc. you cant USE the pfc without a person who knws how to use it i.e. a tuner. In Pakistan no tuner will be willing to risk tuning a rotary because the chances of detonating are very high. Your post pretty much confirmed what Ive been saying about how you can only run a rotary stock in this country. lack of resources.

Yes, flooding is an issue with the rotary thats why I pointed it out.

Plugs you can get from Karachi but I know how much they are sold for in Karachi and how much they're actually worth. I'm fairly certain they dont cost Rs.150 rupees cuz thats how much my 'toyota engine's' spark plug costs.

I'm not trying to prove anything here I'm trying to help you understand the ground reality of the situation. I was and am pro-rotary but kuch cheezain accept karlaynee chahiyay. Theres a reason why rotary rx7s are being sold for 8-9 lacs and 1jz/2jz rx7s for 16-18.

oh and no i did not get 3mm seals and blow my engine up. My rotary was in perfect running conditon. Infact your car has my engine in case you didnt know.

i would have to side with Ahad on this one, the lack of resources to tune a rx7 is the deal breaker.

i have been an avid fan of rotaries since long, i have seen big bucks spent on rotaries to extract a lot of power but at the end of the day one lean spot in your tune and you're back to square one.

If you would have asked me 3-4 years ago i would have told you to mod your rotary, do the cooling mods, get an aftermarket ecu, raise the boost to 1 bar and voila you would be MUCH faster then other cars. (tried and tested)

BUT now the ridiculous amount of power other cars are making, it really gets to you if you spend SO much and still you're slower then other cars.

so if i were you, i would enjoy it on stock boost

well now were to start ,

first we need to understand , that rotary engines are different from pistons ,
they need to be maintained in a proper way for them to perform correctly ,
when RX-7 were brought in Pakistan not many people knew about rotary engines , even the mechanics were also not qualified to understand that engine , so the only way to keep your rx7 running after an engine failure was to bye a new rotary engine , and your done , easy but expensive , this happened for quit a while , which made the myth in pakistan about rotary engines , then came the dawn of swapping the jz engines in rx7 which are so popular now , so thats why every body says that there is zero support for rotary engines in pakistan , its true cause we our selves did not put the support by constantly trashing the rotary engine.

seriously i dont know were to start , its a mess , and i am trying my level best to clear this mess

and as you said you have seen big bucks spent on rotaries to extract a lot of power but at the end of the day one lean spot in your tune and you're back to square one. now thats so true but it will happen to any tunning of any car not just rotary , if you tune a supra or a skyline , and use excess boost or any other error in tunning your bound to blow the engine.

@fahd: well its great to hear that you're a rotary enthusiast...mind you thats a dime a dozen here in pakistan.

i was not necessarily discouraging with my earlier posts, but merely giving an opinion that its best if the rx7 is run at stock boost.

there are a couple of rx7z running in pakistan since the past 5-6 years on rotary engines and they have been maintained properly.

my point however is specific to "extracting more power then stock" from the rotary, for which as we have debated there exist minimal support in terms of tuners and parts. Ofcourse if you have deep pockets, nothing is impossible.

now to your point of not having the right tune will blow up engines even of a supra/honda, yes you are right, but piston engines are not as delicate as rotary engines.

i've had my knock sensor give me knocks upto 80-100 occasionally on my evo and my tuner told me its nothing to worry about whereas on a friends rx7 anything above 20-30 means you're going to run into trouble. Once we've installed a Knightsports ecu and it gave a knock of 180 on idle only, when knightsports were contacted, all they said was "so?". They are rotary experts and they say that once you start tinkering with a rotary, you will see knocks and some seal would give way eventually.

i'll post up some pics of rx7z which are still running rotaries in pakistan, let me find some in my HD.
