Mechanical vs Mechatronics in Pakistan

I have no options except Pakistan ... so???..whats the best plan to opt for...

I forgot to mention ... I got a CIE excellence award for securing highest marks in Computer Studies in Dammam KSA (not that of a big deal but I think it would still count)

Honest suggestion, That I give every one these days. Go for Bachelors in Computer Science (Software Engineering) . The best institute in this field is FAST Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi. You won't regret it! Trust me! Once you learn programming you can start bussiness at your home. The biggest charm of programming is application development i-e the hottest bussiness these days. You can publishing your application for android, apple etc etc.
At the end of the day every one needs a software, by every one I mean all the companies, individuals etc etc. There's endless scope in this field.

If u decide to opt for CS, then u should try your to get in either LUMS SSE or FAST. LUMS SSE is currently offering one of the best CS programs in the country.
About the admission in GIKI, as u did not give SAT 2 for Chem, u might not be eligible for an admission based on SAT 2. Do confirm it as well! But do remember that u need a score of at least 2300 out of 2400 in SAT 2 to get into Mechanical program at GIKI as it has the highest merit in GIKI.
Do keep LUMS SSE in mind if you decide to opt for BS EE.

I have no idea about the relative merit of these universities. NUST also accepts SAT 2 based admissions. Kindly look into it as well. I think getting into NUST is relatively easy as i remember my younger brother was accepted for Mech. Eng. at NUST without preparing for the test. Why don't you consider Mech. Eng. at UET? The merit is quite high though in case of UET.

What about University of Cape Town....?
One of my Uncle is settled in South Africa...so maybe I get a chance there.....Would it be a wiser choice than GIK and NUST...

Depends on the ranking of the university in a particular program. Don't rely on overall rankings. Check the rankings based on a specific program which in ur case is either Mechanical or Mechatronics.
Also, look for the rankings of a reliable authority and source.
If i were you, i would certainly opt for GIKI for Bachelor's and then go for Masters abroad.

I myself planned the same thing......i.e. mechanical in GIK and then abroad...

Since you are in the middle-east, do consider on applying to NYU Abu Dhabi for engineering. If u get an admission there, nothing else beats it.

giki is expensive

am a nust graduate from pnec. got admission here on first my choice. i liked mechanical thats why i did it. have done numerous projects in my 4 years..

yes getting a job is difficult. gpa does not matter. i had 3.22gpa with 4th position in class. got no job until i got a refrence by chance

Donot rely on rankings.
PIEAS is also a good university mainly due to its research works. Giki is good for mechanical and its mechanical is that which evry one dreams for. then comes EME (NUST) then UET Lahore.As said by @saadtn consider it. I have also consulted him when getting my admission.

For GIKI merit is VERY HIGH for mechanical. In nust first 1100 are sorted in electrical and mech in their 2 colleges SEECS and EME.

Very wise decision. If I hadn't my parents against it (SE) then certainly i would have been studying in FAST

LUMS have started their engineering and there first batch is not graduated yet. The ratings and stuff depends on the number of graduates passing out

Rating does not depend on the NUMBER of the graduating students, it depends on the QUALITY. LUMS has certain accreditation to its account which certain other universities lack. LUMS has been recognized by HEC along with certain other international educational authorities. The accreditation from PEC has not yet been approved because the first batch of LUMS has not graduated yet. PEC will accredit LUMS based on the performance of its graduates in the industry and not on their number.

Yar GPA is a strange thing, I've heard of people with 3.5 be unemployed and people with 2.7ish getting employed. (Same batch same faculty) But it does matter to an extent. People get employed from the start too no reference not very high GPA.

GIKI isn't that expensive come on, much cheaper than abroad. It is however roughly twice the cost of NUST. A little less than LUMS though
