Mercedes c200 information required regarding oils

Do not use the 220 ATF, its not suitable with this gearbox, buy 10 litres of any ATF that is equivalent to MB236.14 or 236.12 and use that. I believe liqui moly's brand of meguin is available in Pakistan. Their other multiuse ATF is also suitable.

Get a new gasket/filter set and electric connector. The whole job takes 1 hour at most. Including flushing from the converter.

If a shop is charging 22K, ask for a breakdown of cost. Ask any other shop for price of 10 litres of the ATF I mentioned and some MB shops for the gasket/filter and connector. You'll get your price. There is also a part called the park interlock, its at the tail end of the transmission and has a rubber accordion on it. if its wet replace that too, its not expensive.

If your shifter is sloppy and loose, change the bushings too - they are made of nylon and are easy to install if you dunk them in hot water for a few moments.

Sir the guys of INH are asking about 7 liters of oil, they say it consumes 6.5 liters max. Its 722.6 tranny (triptronic).

Secondly shed some light on some others brands.. the cheaper one etc

I read in some of your older posts u said 286.10 should be used in this tranny

An important fact is that the oil is in pretty nice condition, colour is yellow brown and no smell of burnt oil etc..

Is dere any condition or symptom which denotes that the oil is gone.. Its quite heavy on pocket to change its lubes.

Is it necessary to change the differential oil too?

Sir the other brands like GS oil DX3 etc? Can i use such type of oil. I m Posting a picture of oil that my mechanic has recommended. just for reference

the oil inside this bottle is shell atf 134. btw the original shell 3403 atf which was the original fill is purplish red tinge when new. as it ages it turns to a yellow and then darkens with graphite to a strange brown. it is very tough atf though. its usually good for 75000 kms.

for changing atf this transmission holds 9.5 litres in total. its a very easy job. for atf dont pay stupidly high prices for this product. look for fuchs 4134 or shell 134. meguins smooth brand is also compatible. atf 134 is quite cheap in the usa it costs usd6/liter compared to the original shell 3403 part no. which is nearly usd20/litre.

it is quite common for people in the us to use a base dexron 3 full synthetic atf. and add a package of friction modifier to make it compatible.

the diffy takes regular gl4/5 hypoid gear oil of. 75w90 viscosity. its usually good for 100000 kms or 6 years. make sure to put in the whole 1100 ml of it and make sure the plugs are tight. they are taper threads and take some high torque to seal.

Sir, today i checked almost all well known dealers of lubes in lahore, finally got that MBs orignal 134 atf from a shop, it costed me 2000 per pack

7 liters oil used costed 14000
pilot bushing costs 1300
filter costs 2000
packing costs 1500
labour 1500

almost 20k in total

A pretty expensive bill just for an atf

meguine brand is even most costly than this, 2400 for a liter in lahore

shell Atf is not available..

dere is a little seepage under the car, called the mechanic he checked it at home and said that this was the previous oil which came out from the torque chamber etc dun know exactly what he said..

The transmission is quite smooth now, dere was a little jerk when it shifts from 1st to second. Now its gone. The shifting of gears is just like a new car

man - those are some pretty expensive numbers even by USD standards, the filter and sump gasket come in one packet of MANN, Hengst, Filtran etc. costs USD 15/- in retail for both. The electric bushing is USD 8. You bought ATF @ USD 20/liter which is worldwide MB price, but shell ATF is cheap @ USD 6/lit.

btw 7 litres of ATF is not full fill, when a converter flush technique is done - the whole 10 litres is used till fresh looking ATF comes out.

Check the ATF level after driving hard for 30 minutes to ensure the ATF is really hot, the design of the MB 722.6 sump is that the entire valve body lives in it so the cold level doesnt quite mean anything, when hot it the level moves about 40mm up on the stick. When done and you are sure that there are no leaks - install the cap with new O ring and red lock (lock costs 50 cents)

i will get it checked by him tomorrow..

But dere are just a few drops of seepage doesnt looks like a major issue. As u said in some previous post that if the job is not done as it to be, the whole atf will drain overnight..

the parking lock lever was usually found on older cars - you may or may not have it, if you do have it then you should immediately check for leaks, if that linkage boot leaks - the entire sump will empty out as it is located at the bottom of the transmission. To replace it the sump is removed and the shift linkage is undone from the transmission, the lock pin is hammered out and simultaneously the unit is pulled back wards and out of the case. Reverse for install.

for any sort of leak - rectify it immediately, if its from the sump gasket then the mechanic most probably tightened the pan too much and rolled the gasket, its only tightened gently with a screwdriver or torque it to about 8nm or about 70 in/lb (this was the usual case of trans leaks in mercedes in Pakistan - specially the older ones which dont have limit spacers on the pan like the 722.6 has.

The car was parked on the same place for almost 30 hours, dere is no more leak, no more drops of oil, I also called him yesterday at my place(few hours after the change of oil) to check, he thoroughly examined the whole chamber by removing shield. he said there is no leakage from transmission, this was the oil which came out when the oil of torque chamber was diffused.

Else he is responsible for it, tomorrow i will go to him for one more examination. He worked almost 20 years in shahnawaz, one of the most capable mechanics of mercedes in Pakistan

@Xulfiqar, hope u are fine, today i changed the complete steering rack with an oem rack from half cut of same model.
it costed me around 25k with labour. Refilled with Chf 11.

the car given an esp malfunction just after start but gone later.

the Old rack is in very critical condition, boots are fully filled with the Oil, mechanic said that the both seals were leaked from both sides what so ever
the new rack is completely neat and clean without any seepage inside the boot.. Hope now it will work fine.

BTW its pretty much expensive to maintain a merc

they came factory filled with mineral gear oil, you can use synthetic lube if you experience frozen winters

yes i was finding it difficult to find the correct oils so you are right wont be doing it until if i find the best quality oil

tommorrow will get the CHF 11 and coolant from the shop you mentioned and will get it changed from INH

shahnawax were making too big a fuss saying we will flush lines for power steering and this and that so best to avoid them

your guy is not too smart.

the first fill oil requires a change because it collects debris etc from the bedding in, the third diffy oil change is usually an eye opening event because it looks exactly like new oil in a MB because the lube hold is oversized.

I fill with synthetic lube to ensure that the oil actually looks like oil when the diff starts to rotate - sub temperature on mineral oil in the diff causes the oil to push out like a gel/grease uptil the time the diffy warms it up back to liquid. and diffys do get very very hot given the right circumstances

You can use the caltex 90 gear oil or the zic 75w90 gear oil in it with no problems at all. (Ive done it on many cars in Pakistan) - the old mechanics adage of "C aail" badli nahi karo - hissa awaaz karay ga was only valid on machinery built in the 40s with lubes that were blended at the same time - their diffys were usually worn out in a few thousand miles anyway.

This job of flushing the power steering oil is too much simple. INH guys will do this in minutes.

I do mention and share some good guys other than INH who are much more capable than sohail who work like a Boss at INH and knows nothing.

They are having a lot n loads of knowledge on Mercedes.

There is a person, May Allah grant him good health, too aged. He deals in spare parts of mercs for almost more than 40 years. Naeem and other Guys who claim that they are best, contact him when they stuck in some difficult job.

Remember after changing this oil or anything don't spend anything more, just drive it and enjoy the drive.

When i bought this vehicle this was not in condition as it is now, having some problem. I cleared them all with the help of some old merc fanatics and mechanics. No one helped me here, everyone comes with his own analogy. Some says that a poor benz is like this and that. I did all the jobs by my own and Alhamdulillah the vehicle became a real merc in no time.
