Exactly my thoughts. Why isn't ZS, with identical engine displacement hence identical tax and duty regime, affected by the Januray finance act? Maybe Mr. Afridi, being an avid twitter user, would care to explain to the masses? Or maybe he's too busy warding off Big3's 'conspiracies' against the British brand to note this?

Because they have plenty of unsold stock of MGZS. Once it's cleared it will get a price increase too.

HS base model costs 33% more in Thailand than ZS (919,000 vs 689,000). Since duty on both is the same in Pakistan (being 1500cc), ZS being 4.4 million should mean HS being 5.8 million. Here, the gap between ZS and HS is 4.5 million as HS has been bumped up to 8.9 million.
Therefore, MG's local partners are themselves suggesting its gonna be (officially) curtains soon for MG in Pakistan.

Tax on imports is paid at port clearance. Seems like MG already has ZS stock available. But HS bookings will need to be imported.

In that case the notification should have mentioned the price for new ZS bookings. Or is MG pak confident that there won't be any new ZS bookings, just conversions from disgruntled HS customers?

Couple of weeks back there were hundreds of HSs of trophy edition parked in Packages mall. Maybe now they want to sell this unsold stock at a much higher price with some discount from the above quoted price of 8.9 million. They will make a killing that way

Just yesterday when I was getting my car windows tinted, a new owner of MG HS told me that he has canceled his booking due to 89 lac demand and bought unregistered from market for 61 lac

Watch multiple more people follow suit until every dealer that has any stock left starts asking 85+ for unregistered cars and then the cycle repeats. It's gonna be the exact same way Land cruisers have mantained their value to the point that decades old models are multiple times their invoice and they never ever seem to come down

Not many people are aware of actual circumstances a company is... They just make judgements based on what is portrayed by private dealers/showrooms, who inturn are trying to sell thier stock... Those with knowhow consist of less than 5% of actual buyers in pakistan

MG would have never written this 9 million consent letter even if they forsee CKD deliveries in 6 months. I think they are kind of atleast an year away from PKDMs.
