@trueeyez
they themselves dont want to be developed! i remember my brother and cousin had once went to bannu in teenage while wearing jeans and shirts. and literally small kids threw stones at them.. lolz and remind u it was bannu not waziristan. bannu has a cantonment as well!
Well, what can i say, if you consider wearing jeans and t-shirts makes you a civilized, educated and developed person, then good on you mate, i cant help you out.. but you might have heard the famous saying, "do in rome what romans do", so i guess the phrase is pretty much self explanatory, and it has not originated from bannu!
secondly let me tell you an incidence which happened to me and my friend. It was eid day and i was wearing sort of dark grey shalwar kameez to celebrate eid in one of the most developed countries in the world. it was almost dark and there was this little girl who upon seeing me and my friend, hid behind her mother and started to cry, her mother approached us and asked if we were wearing some sort of batman's costume as we got her lil daughter scared (my friend was wearing a dark coloured shalwar kameez too) LOL!! and we were like WTH!..so its not something strange and is common throughout the world.
and the tribesman wont allow anyone to come and do anything good there. setting up a cantonment is against their so called mardangi.
no hard feelings to anyone but wazirs have a long history of kidnapping for ransom money!
I also belong to that area and i too know a thing or two about the tribal traditions, and to tell you, its not exactly like what you are saying..you know what? why were people of bannu happy with durrani? because he had initiated considerable developmental projects in the bannu city ranging from building schools, colleges to improving infrastructure. he totally changed the outlook of the city and people appreciated him.
tribal traditions are something which these people wont let go of, but it doesnt mean they do not want development. They do want development because no one wants to lead a miserable life, but the fact that the promises made to them by different govts are seldom fulfilled is something to mull over. If we hand over books and pens to those little kids in villages instead of pistols and kalashnikovs, its definitely going to make a difference. And let me tell you my friend, these people are among some of the most intelligent people around, believe me, and some of the top notch bureaucrats and doctors in pakistan are from no where else, but from bannu and waziristan!! I’ve a total faith in these people!
