NESTLE and KINLEY are best, the taste of the water is good enough to drink. AQUAFINA is too harsh taste for the tongue seems some big amount of chemicals are used in it.

If you have the money to spend (Rs.20,000), you can invest in a Reverse Osmosis water purification system. It will cost you more initially, but it pays for itself in a couple of years. I am using one in my home for the past 3 years, never went back to bottled water. Nestle, Aquafina, Kinley, all of them sell ground water after processing it through reverse osmosis.

The only downside of reverse osmosis is that it will taste bitter at first. Since bottled water is heavy on minerals and has a TDS of 250-300 it tastes different than reverse osmosis water which has a TDS of 10-20 without minerals. But after a few months of using RO water you will get used to the taste and bottled water will taste bitter to you

Best thing is you don't need to wait for delivery, or tow heavy bottles. Replacement filters are cheap and only need to be changed once every 6 months or so. The only expensive filter is the RO membrane which costs about Rs. 2,000. But that lasts a very long time. Our RO membrane is more than 3 years old and it is still working fine.

Yes you can , but remember pure-it will make water clean (as safe as boiled water, claimed by unilever) but it will not make it sweeter.

I have no personal experience of this equipment, but I suggest that you get the processed water sample tested from some good lab. That's the best way to find out. It will cost you approximately PKR 1200/-

Pure IT is no different from the three stage filters with UV. They only kill bacteria and viruses, they cannot purify water that has chemical contaminants, only RO and ion exchange can do that. Remember their claim "...as safe as boiled water"

After reply from some members I am thinking of dropping idea of pure it, what about conventional filter with uv light type equipment attached to it. Any good place in khi to buy filter ??

We are using unilever pure-it from last three months. and its a very good experience for us.
Earlier we were using gourmet bottles. Gourmet costs us about 4.75 rupee/ltr. (excluding cost of transportation of our own cars), pure-it cost us about 1.10 rupee/ltr. Our last filter was replaced at about 1350 ltr. use (approximate calculation).
If you have a smaller family, like 6~8 persons then its good for you.
Its of 9,000 rupees, plus it needs a germ kill kit to be replaced after 1500 ltrs of use. and since its a unilever, so the name justifies the quality.

is there any solution to this??

for drinking water, we use gallons but can we use a unilever pureit for purifying the scarcely available line water and will an RO plant better than PUREIT??

Won't this plant make taste sweet ? how we can increase total dissolved solids in RO water so it feel sweeter or no way we can do this?

If you live in an area which has khara pani (very high number of dissolved solids), then RO will taste sweeter. But if you live in Punjab where the water generally has comparatively less dissolved solids then RO will taste slightly bitter. But this is not because RO is changing the taste of water. It depends on what your taste buds are accustomed to.

When I bought the RO unit, everyone in my home was complaining about bitter taste of water. I talked to the guy from whom I bought the unit. He said, there is nothing wrong with the water, its just that our taste buds are used to 200-500 TDS water which is why RO is tasting different. He just told me to keep drinking the same water for a couple of months. After two months or so, nobody was complaining about the taste. We got so used to it, now bottled water tastes bitter to us and RO tastes very sweet.

You can increase TDS of RO water by adding a re-mineralization cartridge to the RO. It improves the TDS but it will not increase it significantly.

You need to add a sediment filter to the main line. I had the same problem in my house. Sand would enter the overhead tank, in toilet flush, clog valves. What I recommend is fairly simple and cheap. Ideally you should have two filters first one is a stainless steel mesh filter which is washable. This will remove all small and large sand particles. This will be followed by a polypropylene filter. This filter will remove rust particles and other very small particles up to 5 microns in size. (25 microns is the smallest size particle that you can see with naked eyes). The water that comes out of the polypropylene filter will be crystal clear. Replace the polypropylene filter every two weeks. It's not very expensive.

Regarding difference between PureIT and RO. RO is a 100 times better than PureIT. Unilever claims that water from PureIT is AS SAFE AS BOILED WATER, they will claim nothing more than that. Which basically means PureIT will remove microbiological contamination only! It cannot remove dissolved solids or chemicals from water. It will only remove visible contamination and germs. Only RO can remove chemicals and also microbiological contamination like bacteria and viruses.

The quality of ground water is going from bad to worse. For family's sake I would suggest everyone to get RO, if they don't have easy access to a filtration plant. It is going to be expensive at first but, it is going to be very very cheap in the long run and it pays for itself in less than 3 years.
